WELL PEOPLE! I HAD TO JOIN THIS.

I HAVE A P910i.
FOR A MONTH I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO UPDATE IT VIA SONY WEBSITE - FATAL ERROR - IT SAYS.
SO, I CONTACT SONY-ERICSSON - THEY SAY THAT ORANGE BAR ALL P910i'S FROM USING THE SONY WEB UPDATE SO TO SPEAK TO THEM.
I DO, ORANGE TELL ME THAT THEY BAR PEOPLE BECAUSE IT WOULD REMOVE THEIR SOFTWARE (FROM MY BLEEDING PHONE RIGHT!) AND THEY DON'T WANT THAT!
TOUGH.
APPARENTLY THE PHONE CAN BE 'UNLOCKED' TO UPDATE BUT - AND GET THIS FOR BASTARD CHEEK - IF I HAD A NETWORK ISSUE LATER ON AFTER THE UNLOCKING AND UPDATING - ORANGE WOULD HAVE ZERO SUPPORT FOR ME AS I WOULD HAVE INVALIDATED MY WARRANTIES BY REMOVING THEIR SOFTWARE AND PUTTING SONY SOFTWARE ON INSTEAD!!!

BASTARDS!

SO I REPORTING THEM BOTH TO TRADING STANDARDS.

GOODS ARE MEANT TO PERFORM FOR THE DUTY FOR WHICH THEY WERE INTENDED - THIS PHONE WON'T BECAUSE OF CORPORATE CRAP - SO AS SEEING AS EACH COMPANY IS BLAMING THE OTHER - AND ME - INOCENT CONSUMER MAN IS IN THE MIDDLE DODGING - THEY CAN SUCK AND I WILL DO WHATEVER I SEE FIT.

I WILL KEEP YOU ALL UPDATED AND INTEND TO PUBLISH THEIR RELIES ON HERE SOON.

REGARDS,

OH - A TIP - IF YOU WANT A P910i - DO NOT BUY ONE WITH ORANGE - GO WITH A DIFFERENT NETWORK AND GET THE P910.

SAME PHONE - NO BULLSHIT!

Mr. Grimnir-The-Dark, I'm not entirely sure you read the contract documents fully, or else you would not have posted this here. The contract documents say that orange own the mobile till the contract ends, at which time you can have the mobile and do what you want, I don't think that you will win this case.

I've been there with Orange on the P800.

Sorry to say this (again), but if people had done their research, they would know not to touch branded P910i's (Orange, T-Mob, Voda) with a bargepole.

Buying a generic one on a contract can be done, it's a bit more expensive but saves loadsa hassle.

I really feel sorry for you, but there are literally HUNDREDS of threads on here telling potential buyers what a shower of shit Orange are.

I got an unbranded P910i from a local retailer on Voda 200 for £280 and it's a joy to use - no locks, poxy themes, wap setting bars ..... and it updates every time.

Hopefully you will learn your lesson this time .....

Yes, I read the docs fully, the point I am making is (read the consumer act) that if goods are sold for a purpose then the law states that they HAVE to perform for that purpose.....seeing as this phone is meant to be updateable and it isn't they are in breach of the act, because if I unlock the thing (which I am doing Monday anyway!) it would update. Proving that it is Orange preventing the update.
