This topic has been all over Irish media lately and I wondered what your views are?

A few months ago a ban was placed on smoking in pubs, bars, cafes, work places etc. This means that in Ireland one can only legally smoke outdoors or at home. Over the past few days alot of pubs have been attempting to boycot this ban saying it is effecting there business and pro smoking campaingners plan to launch a legal attack in the European courts over this issue.
I personnally support the ban as I'm a non smoker and like the idea that I can have a drink in a bar without worrying about the dangers of second hand smoke. I also think that its better for the staff too.
I'm just wondering what your views are on this ban and is there anything similar in other parts of the world?

There is talk of implementing a smoking ban in Scotland too, I can see both sides of the argument, but to be quite frank I think that it is a bit over the top.

Its about time they made smoking totally illegal. The only reason its not is because the governments of the world earn such high income from tobacco taxation.

Tobacco is a drug, due to it being highly addictive and its effects on the people who smoke it (ever seen a smoker desperate for a cig ? keep out of their way !) plus its also extremely hazardous to your health. I'd class it the same as heroin and cocaine.

I dont mind people smoking if they do it where it wont affect me. If i go in a bar, id expect people to smoke so it doesnt bother me as much, its me that put me in that situation. However, when im minding my own business stood at a bus stop, walking in the street or somewhere traditionally people dont smoke and i get someone walk past / stood next to me blowing their smoke in my direction, it really winds me up.

It would be great to have a smoke free world, just think how much money we'd all save on not having to fund healthcare for smoking related illnesses.

@bahbahsupercar

Jolly good old boy! I am quite partial to a cigar after dinner, or after lunch, one in the morning, after breakfast is nice too. There is nothing quite like sitting down in the evening with a delicious cigar and a dash of cognac! Huzzah!

Armagnac is better with a milder cigar since it is a lighter drink than most cognacs. Most people are hard pressed to tell the difference.
One of the nicest drinks to have with a good cigar is a scotch, preferably single malt. My own preference is for the Islay malts, especially Laphroig, however, it requires a very strong cigar to hold its own on the palette when faced with an Islay, and I would recommend a Bolivar on such an occasion, although a Partagas could also maintain its flavour reasonably well.
