Is it me or do u feel a tad disappointed with the latest releases? Theres nothing new about the releases which we don't know, and theres no sort of "magic " which gripped us , for instance when the T610 , P900 or the K700 were released. Am i expecting too much in such a short time? or has Sony got something up its sleeve this christmas?

I agree...I was expecting to be pleasantly surprised...the announcements leave me indifferent.

SE usually presents new models in spring (K700, T610, S700 etc.) and autumn (T68, Z600). Not in July. I expect 1 or 2 suprises around september.

What is bothering me is why does S710a have EDGE while S700 has not. They must be based on same HW plattform and hence have same capabilities. It sounds like it should be possible to upgrade S700 to have EDGE as well later on unless SE plans to release a S710i for the rest of us.

@arne: Edge won't take up big style in Europe anyways. We will enjoy the UMTS frenzy instead, hence different handsets.

New SE Handsets to be introduced on September 19, Madrid, btw.

cheers,

Perhaps not. But since they release Z500i with EDGE in Europe and the rest of the world, why no EDGE in S700 ? Wht is the logic behind that ?
Since I assume S710a most probably uses same HW as S700, how difficult could it be ?

Perhasp they will release an UMTS version of S700 during autumn.

This is probably a daft question, but do we use EDGE in Europe? Do any of our network providers use it? I've not heard any company mention it over here, so I suspect not.

If that's so, then yes, today's announcements are a tad dissapointing, at least here in Europe!

the low end phone T230 is still "new" z600 is still high priced and selling good, K700 is a high end phone that just enterd the market.

so for september we can expect 2 new low end phones (from arima) one candybar and one clamshel.
a z600 succesor
a new inmproved K700
and the viola

about that i'm already sure.

sure i also expected more today but. its good enough in my eyes. SE got profit, sold more phones. 2 new BT headsets (HBH-660 display strange, not sure if its handy), a new deskstand thats super (just bought my CSS-20 sadly).
the z500 like expected but its a great samsung killer no doubt
S710 something for our friends in the US and canada.
K500/K508 2 midlevel phones that with abit of luck will sell great.

there is a big chance that SE will have a TV commercial for the K700 (like the did with the T610) and it will have double effect. people will see that the K700 is great, but not everybody is willing to pay the price. so they'll look at a lower price segment to find a sortlike phone, and there they'll find the K500

so in other words, SE is pushing the market. with there new CEO they'll go for marketshare and they'll remain making the best phones.
