I downloaded a avi video but when i went to the smartmovie player to view it it said no codec to view this what does it mean

when you download programs to play video files you also need to download the codecs to decode the video for that paticular player to play it for you - just download the smart movie codecs - do a search on either google or yahoo and you'll have them in no time just install all of them cos you'll end up playing mp4, avi, wmp, and so on.....
