Hi,

Virgin have just launched their MMS & GPRS services (named FastWAP). Here are the settings as given to me from the helpline:

GPRS:
Profile Name: Virgin WAP GPRS
IP Address: 193.030.166.003
Access Point: goto.virginmobile.uk
Username: user
Password: [leave blank]
Homepage: http://www.virgin.com/mobile/wap

MMS:
Profile Name: Virgin MMS
IP Address: 193.030.166.001
Username: user
Password: [leave blank]
Service Centre: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002

NOTE: Explaination of the above MMS Settings:
The MMS settings for Virgin are rather strange, something I have not seen before. But they require they person to have 2 separate accounts or profiles on the phone. One that is bound to GPRS browsing and the other bound to MMS use. The only reason I can think that this is neccessary is the way that their charging system works.

So, you cant browse using the MMS settings or send MMS with the browsing settings, which seems to be tripping a few people up.

Hope that helps you all!
Paul

This is great news! I got my T610 setup to use 'FastWap' and MMS and they're working fine.

BUT How do I setup email? I need to specify an 'outgoing server' (smtp) which presumably has to be Virgin?

I had email working on normal-WAP but i dialled up to my ISP's phone number and then used their smtp server so that worked fine.

Thanks for any help on this as I'm a bit stuck and Virgin themselves don't seem to be up to speed yet!!

I dont think that virgin have any SMTP server setup for their network... which is a little annoying. So at the moment we can only receive mail unless anyone knows different?

BTW, the other IP address is the gateway (or proxy address if you use a P800 ) for a separate 'internet account' needed for the sending of MMS messages... weird!

JUST REALISED THIS SITE IS FOR SONY ERICCSON PHONES. REALLY TIRED BUT IF YOU CAN STILL HELP THEN BRILL!!

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I brought a Nokia 3200 last week on a 'Pay as you go' tariff with Virgin Mobile (UK). All was fine until I tried send an image using MMS. I have since learnt that I can't send or receive MMS messages. I have tried everything possible to find out what the problem is. I have been to Virgin site and had the settings sent to me. I have entered them manually. I went back to the retailer who couldn't event manage to send me the right settings even worse they thought T-Mobile settings would get rid of me.

I have called Virgin up on numerous occassions who insist that this is a software issue with this particular Nokia model and say they have stopped selling them. I have been into other network branches eg Vodafone who say they have no knowledge of such a problem with the Nokia 3200. I have even been back to the store where I brought it. They have no time for me as they are sales people, and unless they are selling me something they're simply not interested. Nevertheless they say they're not aware of any problems. I have contacted Nokia who say it is an issue with Virgin.

Does anyone out there know the answer? As the settings in the post above are the same as I have on my phone. GPRS is working. Just need an answer so I can move on and either change network or phone. I have a limited time left in which I can ask for a refund..and knowing the retailer they will tell me where to go as there is a tiny little scratch on the phone.Aaagghhhhhh!!

It may be a problem with the access points. Virgin have a separate access point for MMS usage. (That is the second IP address, that is in the MMS settings I defined above). You may need to setup another GPRS profile/account on the phone and set MMS to use that instead of the normal GPRS or 'FastWAP' settings.

I am not exactly sure how to do this on a Nokia 3200 but I would have thought your manual would tell you.

Hope that Helps

Hi Pnh73

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean create a gprs profile with the same ip address that is used for the mms. So use the new profile only to send mms messages and otherwise use the original gprs setting with the othe ip for regular fast wap browsing??

As regards the e-mail issue:

Yeh, im getting that with the mail to, i can receive. I was talking theoretically, because I presumed that it could/had been done.

I think Virgin have restricted it somehow... GRRR! how annoying.

In regard to the two profiles issue:

Yes, thats exactly what I mean, you need to have two profiles setup, one for browsing and one for MMS sending.

Set these up with the details I have given at the top of this thread.

Hope that helps you all
Paul

Paul,

Thanks but no joy oh well.

Just in case I didn't quite follow I have made both the ip address of the gprs profile and the mms settings the same when sending mms messages.

Try removing the general GPRS settings from the phone and use the MMS settings only, then try sending an MMS from the phone.
