> Damn Orange, and their Stupid Branding!
Bookmark topic
I just received my K700i from Orange as an upgrade, obviously very happy, great phone great features, but, Orange branded it in a few annoying ways, on the home screen, (idle screen), it has three icons, 'short cuts', I can't get rid of them and they are soooo annoying, also they changed all the icons in the main menu orange, (shockingly enough!), and they put a tacky sticker on the side below the online>> button so badly that it was almost horizontal and falling off!
I read the instruction manual, and it talks about the unbranded model, which is different, so it is really annoying!
Does anyone else have these annoyances, and also, does anyone know how to get rid of that stupid mini menu on the idle screen, (it is soooo annoying).
Still a GREAT phone though apart from Orange, 'thinkin' they own da place!'
I'd really appreciate some help, thanks in advance.

I think you should accept a little branding for a heavily subsidised handset

True... Noone forces you to buy a very cheap phone from your operator.... You do have the choice to pay a lot extra to get a simfree version....

Yeah basically you get the phone flashed with original

firmware and it will be unbranded. But you cant upgrade the fw to better

fw after doing that.( i think

)

@ Chazzer.
Welcome to the K700i club.
There is one thing i have noticed you shouldn't do and thats not to get your phones from the network operator.
I got my K700i, free with O2 from The Link and i got a sim free, unbranded, unlocked version!
I absouloutely hate branded software. I remember how crappy my T610 looked with the Vodafone Live! software.
Good luck in getting it unbranded. You'll enjoy it more then!

I'd love to know the real reason why the likes of Orange have to alter the phones so much? Surely all they really need do is to replace the SE wapsite icon with an Orange wapsite icon, and that's it? I wouldn't have any problem with that, but then to start changing other parts of the UI seems a little over the top IMHO.
Yes, you are getting a heavily subsidised phone and therefore locked to the Orange network, but having the other UI interface changes surely doesn't bring in any extra revenue for Orange? It seems a bit of a pointless exercise on their side. We've even heard reports that an Orange branded phone will not show a picture of an SMS 'caller' like the sim-free ones will do - although I don't know if this is correct.
I'm a little puzzled on this one, why they need to change the UI. Anyone got any answers? Orangeman?

The Orange branded K700i does not do picture id for SMS nor does it pop up to tell you you have an sms just the annoying shortcuts on the standby screen. I hate this so much compared to my m8's o2 K700i
Mine is going back and wait for the S700 (lets see what orange can do to that)
as far as accepting what Orange do to the phone because I got it subsidised is total tosh I spend over 2K a year on line rental and calls etc etc so I hardly get it subsidised.....

@davem - that's exactly the sort of thing I am asking about - why do Orange remove those features on SMS? They are so useful and one of the reasons I bought SE over any other brand.
Strange thing is, my old T610 [which is Orange branded] does have those SMS features . . . so why remove them on the Orange K700?
