Hello everyone,
I've had my P800 for three weeks now and have noticed a degraded battery life compared to acquaintances who use the same phone. I noticed that the battery consumption played around between 3 - 4% every hour. I read through some of the "battery life" topics in this forum and did not find anything that I haven't done yet, as far as getting the appropriate apps (such as SMan) are concerned.
Here are the specifications and apps currently installed on my phone:
Firmware version: R2F
Bluetooth: OFF
IrDA: OFF, but I activate it for less than 2 minutes when I synch up my phone with MS Outlook (done at most five times a day
Preferred connection: GSM Only
Screensaver: OFF
Powersave: After 5 minutes
Base apps installed:
1. Tracker
2. SMan 1.2c
I already performed a Master Reset and formatted the internal storage which is why I only have the apps listed above installed (I'm in the process of trying to isolate the power problem in terms of the apps). I also killed apps that I do not use via SMan, and have used the flipclose flush using as well.
Before I performed the format/master reset, I also borrowed a battery from a friend and still noticed the 3 - 4% drop every hour. My friend, on the other hand, only had a 1% drop after two hours (which we believe is normal for her phone).
My questions are:
1. Does it matter if I install apps that I plan to run in the background (eg. Tracker and SMan) on the memory stick? Will the phone consume more battery power if the background app is started from the memory stick, and not from the internal storage? Will it be more efficient for the battery if the apps that run in the background are installed in the internal storage instead of the memory stick?
2. Aside from using SMan to manage the running applications regularly, is there anything else that I should take note of such as apps that can be installed to further manage the phone's power consumption?
I'd like to exhaust all the possibilities before I bring the phone back to the dealer to have it inspected so any thoughts will be appreciated!
Cheers,
Rene

As far as I know, most apps like Tracker and Sman, i.e. system apps, load themselves into the phone's RAM memory when running. So they rarely have to access either the internal or external drives, except when you are phsically using them to do stuff.
So it should make no difference to performance or battery drain where they are installed.
I have noticed that on some days my battery can drain really fast, and on other days it doesn't seem to drain at all. But with the same apps running on both days.
I just assume that sometimes the phone gives a battery full message, and shows it at 100%, when actually it's more like 50-60% full. Hence it drains quicker than you would expect.
Try charging your phone as usual. Then disconnecting the charger and then charging it again. See if that makes a difference.
I wish it could show battery life in something more meaningful than %.
Good luck
