Hi guys, i am after to buy a phone for my bro from ebay but i am concerend whether i will have problems if the phone i buy turns out to be stolen. I am in the UK, if i buy a phone and it turns out to be stonen, will it be blocked or someting so i wont be able to use it?? I dont care whatever it is or not, but if i buy anything i want to be sure i will be able to use it. Anyone whith any experiences from buying phones from ebay let me know. You can get better deals from buying using ebay but this is my main consern.

there is always risks when buying from ebay, but if you check out the sellers feedback you should be safe. Try to get a phone that has all acessorys like box, charger etc, as this will reduce the chance of it being a stolen phone.

But the amount of feedback that the seller has is the most important fact. I have bought and sold over 60 items on ebay now, including a buying and selling a phone and have had no issuses or problems

EDIT: If it is stolen it might get blocked, it depends on operators, if the user reported it, and if they knew the IMEI number of the phone.
DON'T BUY A PHONE WITH A MISSING CHARGER, or something else that stands out like a sore thumb, it's not worth the risk, unless the seller has a really good history.

thanks for the info mate will look after that.

The thing is that i know that people buy new phones and report them as stolen and sell them as new on ebay, while getting another from thier insurance. I have a friend who told me that his phone is reported as stolen but he does not have any problems with it. I dont want to buy a phone from ebay and then have problems if its stolen. I wish there was a way i could check an EIMI (whatever its called) if its ok before buying anything.

Well if you buy a phone from ebay and it gets stolen, then you are SOL. Or it might be covered with your homeowners insureance.

A simple way to do it, is call up your provider (eg T-mobile) explain to them that you are about to buy a phone but are concerned that it might be stolen. Ask the customer service assistant to check the IMEI number against the stolen database. They used to have that option on the website, but it has been removed.

Goodluck on that

I buy quite a lot of phones off Ebay, mostly faulty to fix. I've had mixed fortunes, I'm currently on my P800 which was a secondhand buy off Ebay. Not had a problem with it except needing a firmware update (Free from local branch of big phone chain)
Will give more info when I get off WAP and back at my PC!
