Hi, I got my p800 on tuesday and I've been browsing through the forums trying to get on the internet using the SyncStation. I've followed a few of the topics and managed to get online: I used the opera browser, setup the dummy connection on the phone and started browsing.
But unfortunately I can't browse the internet using the default browser, I can't seem to be able to tell it to use the dummy connection. When I chose a website it chooses my O2 GPRS settings, although my prefered GPRS is the dummy connection... this isn't such a big deal as I can use the opera browser, but I would like to be able to sort it out as should work...
Also I've tried getting my email using my phone too and I've had trouble with that... I told it to use my dummy connection and it looks as if it's working, but then I get an error "Bad Request". Anyone able to shed any light on these problems?
Another question while I'm here, after I manage to set this up using the SyncStation, will I have to change any of the settings when I decide to buy a bluetooth dongle (which will be soon)? If you do, I guess I'll be back here later on
Thanks in advance.
Liam

I've found another couple of problems too... when trying to using instant messaging clients (IM+ and symIRC). With IM+ I can't connect to the server, although it is connected to my PC. With symIRC I can connect to server/msg channels/all the rest, only thing that happens, is the messages from other people appear in status and not in the channel, and then pops up with an error saying "erronous message". Any ideas?

Hi Liam,

Congrats on getting so far with a new phone. Usually takes some getting used to before people do as much as you have done.

Could you kindly post the settings from your 'dummy' connection. I have tried that a few times but with no luck. But that maybe down to my firewall rather than the phone. Did you have to add anything for the I.P. settings?

Anyway to answer your questions.
In the Internet application (not Opera, the phones built in one) If you go to Preferences => Basic Tab. It should should WAP connection there. Make sure this is set to preferred.
Also note that each bookmark in Internet application can have it's own specific WAP account to dial. So make sure these are also set to preferred.

You shouldn't have to change any of the phone's settings once you get the BT dongle. It works exactly like the USB syncstation, and is so handy! I recommend you pay a bit extra and go for the 100M dongle. 10M is very limiting. and not too much different in price.
Think Amazon.co.uk have a 100M belkin (old model, but hey!) dongle for just over 30 quid.

Not sure about your IM and IRC problems. Have you got any firewall running on the PC? Try turning it off temporarily and see if that sorts it. Then unblock the ports or applications that are being blocked for IM and IRC.

Good luck.

These are all the settings for my dummy gprs connection:
Account name: Fake
Connection type: GPRS
Username and password required: no
Address: 123.000.000.000
Get IP address automatically: Yes
Get DNS address automatically: Yes
Use proxy server: No
Enable PPP extensions: Yes (I never changed this)
Authentication: Normal
Header compression: No
Precedence: Subscribed
Delay: Subscribed
Reliability: Class 3
Peak rate: Subscribed
Mean rate: Subscribed

Most of the last things I didn't change as I don't know what they mean. Hope this helps.

This has been done, but it still connects using the O2 GPRS settings for some reason, although my preferred connection type is the dummy connection.

I ordered myself a 100m blue tooth dongle, it was a couple of pounds more, so I thought I might aswell.

I guess I'll need to find out the ports and open them, thanks for your help, I'll post back if I get any progress.

I just tried those setting you have on my P800. And I can now access the net through my PC internet connection using the P800 built in Internet application.

So we know they work!

Can I ask what you have set as your home page ? If you also have a bookmark for this page, and the bookmark is set up to use O2-GPRS, then the program will launch that connection before you get a chance to do anything else.

Try setting the homepage to any html file that's actually on your phone, so it doesn't try to make any connections first.

The default is file:///z:/system/data/browser/startpage/start.htm

I'm also getting a 100 Meter BT device today. I bought a 10 meter device but sent it back because the range was so poor. It should arrive tonight!!!!! *excited grin*

I'm writing up a guide on how to get Bluetooth working properly with the phone. So many people seem to be having trouble with it.
I'll be sure to post it on Esato when it's done. So let me know if you have any trouble getting going.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Ok, I've managed to get somewhere.. I realised that I put in the internet accounts the fake connection.. but forgot I put it WAP Accounts, now that's sorted I can choose the correct connection when using the default browser. But unfortunately it still doesn't work. It keeps coming up with an error saying "Activation rejected", now I'm totally out of clues, will search the forum and post back if I find a fix, but between then and now, someone help?
