> Video web site Legal or illegal?
Bookmark topic
Ello,
Im thinking of starting a web site with all kinds of stuff for the p series.
Most of all though I want to offer a wide selection of video downloads.
I would like to, if I can do this legally. Do I need rights or anything to make videos available online?
For example I was thinking about making some of Simpson’s available for download. Would this be illegal?
Thanks for any help
Aidan

I guess is not legal...
But a lot of sites do it.
It's up to you, really. Do you want to take the risk?

You would definately need to speak to the makers of the video, and if you are making it a free site they would probably make exception to it, they would want their slice!

of course its illegal.
copying and distributing any copyright work is illegal unless you have the express permission from the copyright holder and presumably also pay suitable royalties and fees for such rights
there is something known as the "fair use act" which provides some limited copying of DVDs 8for example) that you own for your own use such as backup etc
have you not read the legal notices you get at the beginning of just about every DVD?

If i caunt do that i might make one for people to upload their own mp4s

I agree with Aiwarikiar (as posted in the P800/P900 videos thread) its a great idea but most of these sites never seem to come to anything
However if it does go ahead then remember to
1 Ask the original converter if you can use his video on your site and give him the credit for it
2 Dont mirror to the original file host it on your own site it is hard enough getting bandwidth without twenty sites all linking to it

making it free is no different as the copyright holders view is that you are affecting their sales as people will download your version in preference to buying it
it would be the same if you copied a CD to a blank CD and gave it away. The point is that it is not yours to give away.
for some reason people seem to view electronic copyright infringement as less serious than stealing from a shop because there is nothing much that is tangible, but in reality its no different than stealing something from a shop and giving or selling it to a friend

I dont care to be onist... if i want it i download it.
Everyone still seems to make millions out these things anyway.
...may have to have a re-think about my site though.

That's why I stopped people using my ftp because of the risks.
