Only Sony sells original MS duos. Other brands are most likely not licensed and Sony does not guarentee compatibility. So they might work or they might not (always).

thats an interesting statement. In actual fact Sony have invested quite a bit in lexar. read this press release which also confirms that lexar are heavily integrated into the memory stick process by licencing high speed controllers back to sony to improve memory stick performance. Indeed it is quite a symbiotic relationship.

sandisk are licenced to produce memory stick products under their own brand but the licencing agreements have very stringent testing requirements and the memory stick consortium even provide testing hardware to ensure compatibility

What was actually wrong with the sandisk duo

Did it format or not

Or was there no file structure

A couple of weeks ago I also decided to buy a 128mb memory stick. I had Sandisk in mind because it was a little cheaper but then I heard from a reliable source that there has been problems with Sandisk's memory sticks. It doesn't always work properly, as it should. So I bought Sony's memory stick instead and haven't had any problems with it since, even though it's in heavy use.

I decided to have a look in argos today and the reason you cant use the SANDISK memory stick is because it is a 128mb memory stick duo PRO which will not work on the P800/P900

The SONY 128mb memory stick duo that they are selling is the one you need

Sandisk makes both memory sticks as does Sony.
