Quick question...

I formatted my P800's C: drive at the weekend (after having a few little problems) and used the S.E. website to get back my MMS and GPRS settings.

Now my MMS messages are now being sent/received through a Wap account called 'dummy' but my phone connects using my usual T-Mobile GPRS settings.

I've been signed up for T-Mobile's 20MB GPRS package for a few months, of which I use ~15Mb but previously I was paying for MMS on top of that. Am I getting free picture messages now, or will T-mobile still be able to charge me per message (though I can't see how!?)

I am 95% sure you will be charged unless you chose a tariff with free mms, u see on uk network a message is sent to the network, network A recieves the message. Network A then sends the message to Network B (thats when u are charged the standard msg cost) Unfortunately if ur gprs charges msgs can cost more, no matter what apn u use will still charge unless u change the mmsc, unless nowmms or another firm offers it wont happen.

Unfortunately, that makes sense.

I was just surprised to see that my "Picture Message" settings weren't there, and my MMS's were being sent using my "T-Mobile GPRS" settings.

But as you say the MMSC is still the same so I'll have to check my bill carefully this month!

Does that mean that the actual GPRS connection through the "Picture Message" settings is free then? 'Cause if T-Mobile are charging 35p for the actual message delivery, and it also costs, say, 2p for the GPRS connection (per message) then we're all being charged an extra ~5% on our messages!?

Yes that is true, well it is on the O2 networks anyway as it still contributes to data being sent, even recieving uses GPRS data. Maybe some networks are different.

It won't come out of your data allowance mate. The rata will pick up the sending of mms and as such will seperate the gprs usage and not charge you for it! Can't believe o2 do though-would have them false advertising other wise as they say free to recieve when it's obviously not! This message was posted from a Nokia

Hmmm.....I think I need to recover my original Picture Message settings so that I don't have to pay for the data transfer and the MMS, then.

BTW, If I were an O2 user, I'd complain at around the time I was thinking of upgrading my phone. They may not change their pricing system, but I'm sure they'd be willing to offer an improved upgrade deal!?
