I just purchased a SE K700i from CPW on the o2 100 contract for free. I've been reading the forums and noticed that many people have been having problems with the battery. I just put my phone on charge and left it off and noticed that the light came on, but this appears to be normal as many people are experiencing it (i think).
I am thinking of leaving my phone on charge for the rest of the day and overnight (20 hours) to make sure that the battery is fully charged. I was wondering does overcharging damage the battery in any way?
How can i preserve the battery life? I know that i have to make it completely flat before i completely charge as it is a Li-ion battery. Anything else that i should do?

don't worry about overcharging the battery. The phone will cut the power getting to the battery once it is fully charged.

I've charged my battery serveral times this way:
Use phone until battery is drained completely
In Settings>Display>Light, set to Power Save
Charge for at least 12 hours phone off
And now, my battery is lasting around 3 days...

been on charge for 4 hours now and it just turned the backlight off. It was saying charging and had a green battery meter that was not moving just before. does this mean that the power has shut off and it has finished charging? however, i just pressed a button and it is showing the green battery not moving and charging again.
im gonna leave it on for the rest of the day and overnight anyway. just want to make sure that i dont get the battery problem

The manual says 4 hours, so thats what you should charge the phone by.
I charged mine for 6 hours for the first 3 times i charged mine, just to make sure. Now my battery lasts easily 2+ days.

How many hours a day? (24 or you switch off the phone in the night?)
My k700 stays on about 30 hours with 30 mins of calls and some sms/pics

I used up the little power that was already in the battery before my first charge. then gave it about 4 hours charge.
its been the 4th charge now, and i am just getting 1 full day.
would using the phone before its first charge have much affect? really?

The "detailed t610 discussion" was a lot of help
@jarge - i would have throught that using the little left at the start would help it to last longer because you are only supposed to charge when the battery is completely flat. However, i have been reading on other threads and most people who the batteries last longest for leave their phone on charge for 16 hours the first time and then overnight for the others. As you only charged for 4 hours the first time, that is probably why. After 3 hours of mine charging, it said battery full. However, im gonna leave it on for the rest of the day and overnight just to make sure
If you try running the battery completely flat and then leaving on charge for 16 hours, and then only charge when the battery is completely flat, you mite be able to make ur phone last longer than 1 day.

throughout the page it continually refers to the "memory effect" and says that "Li-Ion batteries do not suffer from the memory effect". The SE k700i uses li0ion batteries and i was just wondering what exactly is the "memory effect"

this site reccomends that you run the battery completely flat and then charge for 24 hours for the first 3 charges to get the best preformance after.
