G'day everyone,

I work in a mobile phone shop in Australia and have been informed that all our stock of K700i's will be upgraded this week or next week to the new version firmware.
We currently have the R2A041 version but I'm not sure what version this new update will be (Perhaps R2J002 ?). I will let you all know and post a screenshot when they are all upgraded.
I will also request to get the new firmware myself so that I can update all the customers phones that we have sold already on the spot so they don't have to take it to a service centre. If that's the case, I will have the firmware in my grasp and make it available here in this post soon.

For now.. Can people post what software version they currently have on their K7 and also post any software bugs they have encountered.

I emailed Sony Ericsson Australia last week and reported what faults the staff and customers have experienced to far..... Here are the bugs and suggested fixes that I emailed to them :

- Phone freezes up, especially while answering/hanging up a call or playing
games. (Must switch phone off/on to fix).

- 'Play Now' and "Internet Services' icons disappear (But will come back
eventually).

- When you have multiple numbers for a contact, some numbers within the contact
disappear. (Must re-enter that number again).

- The same number showing up on ALL contacts as you scroll down the list. This
becomes permanent in the phonebook. (Whole phonebook needs to be erased and
re-done to fix).

- When sending something via Bluetooth, you must wait until the device search is
fully finished before sending or else the Bluetooth will search forever. (Must
switch phone off/on to fix).

- MP3 player can go into random mode after turning the unit on, even when random
is set to OFF previously. Must always keep switching random OFF all the time.

- Sometimes photo will not come up anymore when a contact rings. (Photo needs to
be re-added to contact to fix). This happens even when the photo has NOT been
moved to another folder.

- Every now and then a Name will not appear when receiveing a call or sms from
someone already in contacts. Just the number appears. (No way to recify this).

- When ending a call, and keylock was previously ON, sometimes will go out of
keylock but the key symbol will still show on the top left. (Need to lock and
unlock to remove key symbol).

- Battery indicator irregular. Will go down to the last Red bar when only 50% of
the battery life is exhausted. The final Red bar lasts as long as the rest of
the indicator did. Also, sometimes indicator will be in Orange or Red section
and after a while will miraculously increase to the Green section.

- When sending a photo from 1 K700i to another via Bluetooth, it tends to strech
the picture horizontally. (Sending via IR will keep the picture the same ratio).

- When phone is fully charged, the indicator will tend to keep on moving as if
it's still charging. There's no real way of telling if it's finished.

- Phone does not play all MPEG-4 files. Other Mpeg4 capable phones will play all
Mpeg 4 files but the K700i will only play certain ones. It seems they need to be
in specific bit-rates and dimensions to play on K700i.

- Bluetooth headset battery getting drained in half the time. Only tested on
HBH-65 which lasted 10 hours on T610, but only lasts 4-5 hours on K700i.

- When adding a Contact to a Group, phone won't allow contact to be deleted from
Group. (The entire Group must be deleted and re-done to fix).

- 'Default Number' in contacts can change by itself so Voice dialling sometimes
dials the wrong number. (Default number needs to be re-set to fix).

- Number '2' Key if pressed at the top can get stuck under the front casing.
Needs to be ficked back out often. (Seems to go away after a while perhaps due
to learning to press button lower as habit).

Why should the thread be locked? He is right about EVERYTHING that he says. I hope you do not take this as an insult to the primarily Swedish manufacturer! In fact I got so sick of all this for the last month that I have owned the K700 that I got rid of it. The new software only addresses very few of the problems and the camera night-mode remains as disgusting as ever. Bought myself a new V600 which, with the latest software, is as bug-free as the K700 will, probably, never be!

Everything he says has been said in other threads about 100 times, i´m tired of all complaining in new threads all the time.
Everyone doesn´t have to start a new thread they discover a fault which been mentioned several times before.

its a nice summary though, all in one concise post, although I haven't experienced most of them nor have I heard of quite a few of them

Yep, I'm in Melbourne guys. Telstra Shop, but can't tell you which one just yet.

Just like to clarify a few things.
All the faults listed are an accumulation of responses, they do not happen all at once to every phone. You may get a couple of different faults on each phone.
Mine's got about 5 off the list (Random MP3, Numbers deleting from phonebook, Bluetooth lockup, and phonebook name not appearing).

I work in a place where I can have any phone I wan't and I change my phone regularly. I know every phone inside out and try out every new model that gets released so I know which phones are good and which phones are not.
So it says something when I still own a K700i (Best phone I ever used), and previous phones have been T630, T610, T68i, T68. In between I have attempted to own a Siemens SL45, Samsung T100, Nokia 7250, Samsung E700, Motorola V600, Nokia 6230, Nokia 7610, but these phones are so far behind Sony Ericsson it's not funny. SE are a giant leap ahead of the rest.
I can put up with a couple of annoying bugs for a few weeks to use such a class phone. Nokia annoys the hell out of me even when they're working properly. Still far too slow operating system. Samsung have no features at all and Motorola is still too hard to operate. It takes too long to perform simple tasks on Motorolas.

Anyway, lets wait until the new S/W becomes available and make the best phone even better...

@turboy: Thank you for a very structured, well-formed summary of known bugs.
