I just got my Virgin GPRS stuff working and can browse very well using the inbuilt browser on my P900
However, browsing using Opera doesnt work. I get the connection and the globe comes up. It bulges, sends out some 1 kb of data and never recieves back anything.
Similarly, agile messenger is unable to connect.
If i use the internet connection of my PC (over BT), I am able to use opera and agile messenger.
Has anyone faced this / has a suggestion to fix this for me?

whereas the in built browser can use a wap GPRS connection or an internet GPRS connection, opera only works with a full internet GPRS connection (the type your PC has)
I've never really understood why or what the difference is, and this trips up so many people, but its the same with email where you also need an internet type GPRS connection

Just out of curiosity
What if any difference will I see in the internal browser when I use a wap GPRS or a internet GPRS connection? Will wap GPRS restrict me from browsing any website or content?

dunno, I very rarely used the internal browser always preferring to use opera
but thats a question you can answer for yourself by just trying it. Normally I would do that for you but I sold my P900 recently, sorry

On my network the internet gateway is unrestricted, the wap gateway is usally 1-500kb. Thats the only difference, though white images show an off colour when i use the internet gateway and default browser on my 6600?!

@masseur -> You are a genious. I was about to go in for both WAP connection *and* Internet Type GPRS connection. That was because without WAP, I could not use the internal browser.
But!!!. Opera works great with only the Internet TYPE GPRS connection!!!. Great!!!. You saved me Rs99/- per month boss!

Exactly this reason that I asked
wap GPRS is available for quite less money for me. But I dont know the limitations. I now know that opera, email etc wont work... but I intend to use its sparingly... if I need to locate a map or google up something or check web mail on the move.
Dont know if it will work that way in internal browser once I take the subscription for wap GPRS

@sbjg
I was looking at another of your thread about syncstation browsing over GPRS
Is the Rs 99 connection good to browse anything on the phone? Or is it limited to some websites? I just want browsing on my phone when I'm on the go as I have a broadband at home

Another question about browsers...
How do i make opera as the default browser, when i get e-mails with adresses attached and click on them my P900 opens SE-browser, i wan't it to open Opera.
How do i fix that?

I found the 99/- WAP ("GPRS + MMS") package good. The speed was good. However, I do believe that all sites are not WAP enabled. Only major ones are. So one can't access all websites. Like I dont think I could go to gmail using the WAP service. It gave me some weird error.
Then if you take the "WWW-ACCESS", you can't use the internal browser, but you can use Opera to open up *any* website you want (just like on your PC).
