> Problems with T610 (java games/default media)
Bookmark topic
Hi, after having numerous phones on contract I finally decided there's more to life than having the latest phone, so... I've cancelled my contract and bought a Sony T610 from eBay and I'm switching to PAYG.
I'm *VERY* happy with this phone so far, infact, for what I want it's perfect! I know it doesn't have 3D games, MP3 or Video Recorder but I'm sure I could put that £200 extra to good use elsewhere.... anyways, enough of my ramblings! I'm couple of fairly large problems with it:
1) When I recieved the phone it had been totally reset to default, this means I have absolutely none of the standard ringtones, games or wallpapers with the phone! The wallpaper thing doesn't bother me at all since I've already installed some very nice themes (the theme system on Sony's is absolutely awesome!), the ringtone thing is a bit of a pain, since I have absolutely no tones specific to text messages and the only ones I can find on the net are proper songs and not suited at all to a quick text message beep (or similar..), the lack of default games wouldn't bother me either, except......
2) I've transfered around 30 games onto my phone using bluetooth, out of these only about 3 worked, and they're all awful! I've seen screenshots of some of the ones that didn't work and they like pure class! They mostly install fine, although whenever I try to run them, the Java logo comes up and it then it comes up with a message saying "Application Error" and it takes me back to the main games list!
I assume this is partly due to the fact java games come with two different files - one with a .jad extension, the other a .jar! The .jad files (the larger of the two) always transfered fine but I'm yet to find a way to get the .jar files onto my phone and into the correct directory. Just wondering what I'm doing wrong and if there's a specific method of putting the .jar file onto the phone - maybe the .jar file has nothing to do with it at all and it's a problem with the phone? I'm not too sure... any help would be very greatly appreciated!
Many thanks & kind regards,
Nick

Also - do you think it's worth me sending my phone off to get the firmware updated for around £25?
Rudest person I've ever spoke to on the phone, I've never heard anyone swear so much in my life... how the hell people like this get employed as a sales person I'll never know!!!

i believe firmware upgrade should be free if your warranty still valid...

Oh right, it's second hand though so I'm not sure about the warranty!

Well since if got from ebay, no warrenty :-l about the java games i found myself deleting most me the games i put on there as had the same prob. I tink it's more the fone rather than how ur doing it. I do all my transfers via data cable but shouldn't make no difference. Btw i found that pacman7210 (sure thats the right file name for it) works real well but no sound, tbh i didn't find many good games that worked also bomberman works on t610 :-D

This phone's pathetically slow! Any idea who to send it off to other than the morons I rang earlier to get the firmware updated please?
Cheers xx

Absolutely useless! Just gave them a call again (second time lucky, right?) and asked if the firmware upgrade would give me a significant boost in performance, and got the reply "Sorry sir we're not trained in technical matters, I'll go ask someone else"... a few minutes later comes back "Hmm, no one seems to think it'll make any difference, sorry, bye" and put the phone down.
CHARMING!
Is there anyway at all I can improve the speed of the games without sending it off to these people?
Cheers xx

I think you're not using games compatible with Sony Ericssons. I've found out some only work on the Nokia phones.
But I'm not sure how you managed to even remove your message alert tones. So you're saying that you can actually select a custom ring tone when you recieve a message?

Oh dear, I think I best apologise to everyone in advance regarding my premature conclusions!
I've downloaded numerous games since and all work at full speed (from
www.se.trg.ru - amazing site!) and the message tones are actually still there! I just got worried because it appeared everything else was wiped, and since the phone wouldn't let me preview the message tones I was worried they were wiped too! I'm still a bit gutted I haven't got the 'old fashioned' style ringtone that came with the phone!!! Oh well, I'll live!
My comments regarding the company that flash update the phones still stands though, their customer service was practically non existent! I've never spoke to such unhelpful people in all my days
