> Fake DSS-20?
Bookmark topic
Hi,
Read all the posts and downloaded the latest sync station software and drivers but when windows asks for a location of the drivers and I point it to the directory I have unzipped them to it looks and says the location does not contain any info about your hardware?
I plug the sync station in nthe usb port and am using the hardware wizard.
As a side note on my other pc it seems to reconnise it as the DCU-11 and works perfectly for sync etc,
Is this one of those stations that is not a DSS-20 but a cable with a cradle attachment? and will it enable me to update my firmware online
it looks like a DSS-20 but the serial No is KRY105 138 R1B
TYpe 4040034
got it from
www.5tech.co.uk
any thoughts??
Cheers Guys

i got a dss-25 from 5tech of ebay, but my computer recognises it as a dss-20, and it works using the dss-20 drivers. How ever it is actually a dss-25 as can be telled by comparing it to the pictures on the net.
Not sure what you problem could be, all i did was unzip the zip file, then use the hardware wizard to locate the folder that i had unzipped and it works fine.

I have a P800 DeskStation/SyncStation with exactly the same type numbering as yours. It identifies itself to the PC as a DCU-11. It was not possible to run the K700i online upgrade with this equipment.
I have another P800 DeskStation with another type numbering, and in addition "DSS-20" on the label underneath. This one identifies itself to the PC as a DSS-20, and requires another set of drivers. This equipment was recognized as valid by the online-update SW.
It seems to me you have gotten yourself an oldfashioned P800 DeskStation, not the DSS-20. If you asked for a DSS-20 and got this, you should go back to the shop and request a replacement.

sounds a bit strange to me. one guy saying the dss-20 is comming up as a dcu-11 cable, another saying his supposedly dss-25 is recognised as a dss-20 and uses dss-20 drivers.
it would seem you arent getting what was advertised to me, for both of you. I was looking at getting one from the same place (their website is actually cheaper than getting it off their ebay site) but I wont be bothering now as im only buying it for firmware upgrades.
anyone know a cheap place to get a PROPER guaranteed to work one?
p.s. what exactly is the difference between the dss-20 and dss-25? is one going to be more future proof than the other? one faster than the other?
best i found for dss-25 is
http://www.mydogandbone.com/V[....]k+Stand&prod_code=PON04G000027 and is 18.99+2.50 delvery

I got mine from 5tech, it came as promised DSS-25 but on the pc it says dss-20. Just send it back and I am sure they will replace it, after all we are all human and make mistakes

Yep, I got mine today from 5Tech too. Installed it with the P900 drivers and it still got recognized as a DSS-20. It works as it should when synchronizing, so I don't wreckon it will be a problem when the Updateservice finally launches. I think the only difference with the Dss-20 and the Dss-25 is mostly cosmetic. If you were one of the first to buy a P800 you might only have that cradle that connects to the computer with the DCU-11. Then it's no good with the updateservice.

my dads got a p900 so im gonna use his syncstation ehehe its detected as a dss-20 in usb devices though so looks like no such thing as a dss-25 in terms of hardware, just slightly different shape stand is all.
the SE so called 'file manager' which didnt work properly at all with my DCU-11 (but did detect the phone) doesnt even detect any phone is conected with the syncstation, but the image editor, syncstation software etc all detects it just fine.
afaik the SE update thing is down at the moment isnt it so i cant try and upgrade the firmware right now anyway?

People who know people in SE, have gotten confirmation that the SE Online Updateservice will be avaliable soon. It's still in beta-testing, but they've moved it to another URL, so we don't slow their servers down like we did the few days it was up and running.

lol ill just have to keep checking here then. got this syncstation all up and running, the filemanager works now too so thats obviously a problem with the non official cable i got off ebay (although it seemed one of the more advanced ones and works with everything ecept the file manager).
just gotta wait for them to release it so i can update this thing.
its an o2 phone though so i think it might not update it cos of customisations (even though o2 stuff is virtually untouched it still has o2 logos etc on it so maybe it wont work).
