I think what you are talking about is a voicemail icon. Try pressing 1 for a few seconds and it will connect you to your voice mail. Then the icon will go away

you are probably either on Orange or T-Mobile! but currect me if im wrong!
on these nets they use a different system to let you know you have a voice mail!
and unfortunately it the icon wouldnt go away unless you call your voicemail up and actually delete the message! then as soon as you hang up, within a few secs it will dissapear!
its nothing to do with your phone mate! its the Network!
Regards

This is a service offered by Orange. I have no idea where your deleted message goes to though.

Was this ever resolved? i have the same problem on my p910i, the voicemail icon goes after deleting the voicemail but the sms message (which appears to be stored on the sim?) seems to be protected from deletion. I never had an sms to let me know i had a voicemail from orange with any previous phones, i did used to get them on my a1018 with cellnet about 6 years ago but you could just delete them, i cant seem to get rid of these ones.

I had same problem. The phone trainer at Orange said that the message is stored on the sim card.
You can delete it by putting sim card in another phone (I know nokias work),and manually deleting it from there.
Lengthy procedure, but it does remove the icon.(till the next time you get a voicemail message!)

That sounds like a pain in the a$$, How can orange expect customers to change the fú¢kin' phone to just delete a message. It sucks.
