I know that sounds funny but my statement is based on what is happening to my phone's battery life. I've had Handy Day on trial for one month and it was smooth sailing. I did not notice any reduction in battery life (giving me 2 days of moderate use). Then a few days ago, the Handy Day software trial period expired, and the thing is I can still use the software coz all it does is tell you to purchase the product in a small dialog box at the bottom. If you click ok, you still get to use Handy Day (for those wondering, I do intend to purchase it though, its just that I've been terribly busy).

But then my battery life is now down to 6-8 hours! I've done everything as suggested in other threads, closed down all aps, switch off my bluetooth, turn to GSM only, no backlight, power save after 2 minutes.... the whole lot and yet the same problem persist. This makes me wonder is it possible that the programmers of Handy Day programmed it in such a way that if you use Handy Day after the trial period, it will start to "punish" you by draining ur battery. I'm aware that previous versions of Handy Day do drain the battery and I think they've managed to fix the latest version, hence the good one month that I had. Is it possible that after the trial period, Handy Day switches back to the old version, hence drains the P800 batt? Does that make sense? Is it possible? Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks

yup, sounds funny to me too

well, it might just be that when its expired, it keeps on looking for registration code or some other activity in the background. It is more likely some similar programming logic doing this rather then they trying to punish you off (though I wont discard that idea, as norton antivirus had a similar punishing feature built in in its early days)

If you could proof that, then that would have "Lawsuit" written all over.

Thats really bad. No programmer should do that. Why cant they just disable the usage then playing with our battery.

@alpal

try search the matter deeper and be 100 percent sure that battery drain results to the expiration of hday's trial

then follow Residentevil's advice and offcourse keep all us advised of developments

Hello there…

Ow, so you have a problem with battery drain, guess I’m not alone in this world then =)

Don’t worry, I was also facing the same problem before. Mine is P900 with some additional software inside it including Handy Day 2004 (already registered).
My problem was, if usually my phone stays for 2 days somehow it drains into only 1 day.
Actually I’ve used Handy Day for long time, before it was ok, but one day this problem occurred. So I’m not sure what caused this, Handy Day or else.
I’ve tried everything I could, even sent it back to the Sony Ericsson service centre, but still the same.
I even found a new crazy symptom, if you use 32 MB the phone stays for 2 days but if you use 128MB the phone stays 1 day. Crazy….
I was frustrated that I want to sell my phone, but finally, my last hope, I reset my phone by myself. But before doing this, remember to:
1. Don’t use Sony Ericsson back up software
2. Back up your data manually, including the pictures, sounds, whatever...
3. Also your address book, you must sent it via Bluetooth or IrDa to another device for backup
4. Then reset your phone, until back to “new phone” setting.
5. Then send back the address book, pictures etc manually, and installs back all your application.
6. Remember not to use Sonyericsson backup/restore software.

My phone was “living” normal again after that, now I still use my Handy Day and it runs ok again.

Well, if your case is the same with mine then maybe this could help. But I’m sorry if it didn’t work out.
Anyway remember to carefully backup your data manually, so that you won't miss anything in case this doesn't work. Good luck.

Some updates on my "funny" claim

My battery life is almost back to normal (nearly 2 days which I understand is not at its optimum level but a significant improvement to the 6 hours I had). I did several thing, and I'm not sure which contributed to my batt life getting better. Maybe u can help me decide:

1) Unistalled the trial version of Handy Day (if this is the reason, then my 'funny' claim would be true)

2) Did a backup on my phone which required me to free some memory, as the SE software would not allow a backup with so little memory left in my phone. Previously I only had 0.9M on my internal memory and 1M on my mem stick. I had to free both to about 2M before the backup worked. (could it be that when the memory is low, the battery drains faster)

3) Tried my battery in my friends' P900 and then changed it back into my phone after that.

What do you guys think?

By the way, I'm contemplating doing a master reset. Someone suggested that I should send my phonebook add to my email instead of relying on synching with Outlook as the latter is faulty. I tried sending one whole folder using the "send this folder" option in my add book as an experiment but when I opened the email containing the folder attachment, I only got the first name in the folder. Anyone knows how I can send my whole phonebook to an email b4 I do the master reset? Thanks
