i did a search but unable to come up with an answer, so here goes...

i have the D-Link BT adapter ready with my P900. now i would like to connect to internet from my P900 via BT.

all your Mac gurus, please give me some instructions on how to do this.

i go into network -> automatic -> BT -> PPP
to enter account name, password & phone no of my ISP.
then in BT modem tap, what do i choose? i can't seem to finde an entry for D-link BT adapter nor an entry for SE P900.

thanks,

I'm not sure myself, as I've not tried it, but the following links may help:

I do not think that it is possible to connect to the Internet with a P900 because of the way SE has designed it. There is the issue of AT Commands and the P900 does not process them in the way that the T610 or the Z600 does. I have tried and it will not work at all.

JoolsG3, have you connected to the interenet with your K700i? I can not get mine to dial. Which modem are you using?

@sapporobaby

If you mean via GPRS then I haven't tried it yet. I read somewhere (unfortunately can't remember where!) that the GPRS scripts from http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ work.

I've connected to the internet via a dial-up GSM connection ok for downloading email. I tend to use dial-up GSM rather than GPRS (even though its quicker) because its free on my contract.

Offcourse I forgot what the post was about when I finally got to write my answer!

Start with, contacting your operator and get information about what APN you should use to access their GPRS service and if it requires a username / password.

Then, go to Applications, Connections and Data Accounts. There should be an account by default that is called "GPRS" Select it and press Edit. Then click on Advanced. In the address field, input your operators APN and username / password if applicable.

Then you need to pair your P900 with the Mac. I can provide you with directions with screenshots and everything in english, ... but guide text in Icelandic.
Before you start, make shure you have Bluetooth on your P900 on and the device is Discoverable.

http://skrar.siminn.is/gsm/tolvutengingar/Bluetooth_MacOSX.pdf

For the dial up connection, you usually don't need to provide a username, since all the information needed is already in the phone. You will need to provide a phone number, *99# or *99***1# and the modem script you should use is either Ericsson Infrared or Ericsson T39, 19.200 kbps.

You should be able to connect if you follow these guidelines and are patient... and maybe a bit persistent! THIS CAN BE DONE!

I leave my original post here... somebody might make some use of it.

The P900 can offcourse be connected to a computer via Infrared, Cable or Bluetooth and from there to the Internet via GPRS.

Then the question is, are you going to use Infrared, Cable or Bluetooth connection to connect the phone to a computer?

If cable:
With flip closed hold the Option key and scroll down to connections. Select Cable and make shure it is set to Modem.
Then install the modem in Windows and create a dial up connection that uses the modem for the phone and dials the number *99# or *99***1#

If Infrared:
With flip closed hold the Option key and scroll down to connections. Select Infrared and make shure it is set to ON and Modem.

Point the Infrared port of the phone to the infrared port of the computer and let it install an infrared modem port. Next create a dial up connection that uses the infraredmodem for the phone and dials the number *99# or *99***1#

If Bluetooth:
Make shure Bluetooth is turned on and the phone is discoverable. Pair the phone and double click on "Dial up Networking" profile. Set the phone number of the dial up connection to either *99# or *99***1#

If you like challenges, then there are very good directions in this location:

http://skrar.siminn.is/gsm/tolvutengingar/SE_Tolvutenging.pdf

Unfortunately the text is in Icelandic, but the phone language is in english as well as all the menus on the screenshots in the brochure. You might want to use this as reference.

@ sfaguy & all
I've been surfing via BT GPRS since day one with my P900. Connect speed is a decent 40-45k. I don't understand how someone can claim it doesn't work! I also have it working with iSync & Address book just fine. Btw, no additional software was used.

I contacted my service provider, got GPRS settings sent to me, and in a minute or two, my P900 was surfing w/Opera.

As for the PowerBook and using the P900 as a GPRS modem, I just ran the OSX bluetooth setup. It even selected the appropriate modem script! I only remember disabling one PPP option so it won't drop connections.

@Symbiatico,

hey, thanks for the info. i am happy to hear you are connect to the internet via BT from your Mac.

also, can i connect using either modem on P900 or GPRS? which one is better and please send me your configurations. i figure if i am low on minute usage on my phone, i could use GRPS.

BTW, i already have GPRS settings in place for P900 as i can surf the internet using Opera and agilemessenger...

i have my P900 and BT On my Mac paired already, and would you verify these settings for my Mac.

Automatic -> Bluetooth
TCP/IP ->
configure IPv4 = using PPP
everything else is BLANK
PPP ->
i have account name, password and phone number all fill in.
this is the info for my ISP as if i would dial using a phone line
Proxies ->
default setting
Bluetooth Modem ->
modem = ericsson infrared
both 'enable error & wait for dial tone' are selected.

do you have the same settings? so all i need is to click on the BT icon and dial, correct?

Sfaguy,

Sorry for the delay; I've been out all day and forgot to check the forum on my P900.

Now that I'm home looking at my PowerBook settings, I don't quite understand this part:

"i have account name, password and phone number all fill in.
this is the info for my ISP as if i would dial using a phone line."

Do you mean you are using an actual number to dial-in? AFAIK, Dialing into a GPRS connection is something like *99# or simillar. At least that's what I have on my BT-GPRS connection.

No "Account Name" or "Password" are used in my case. I am also on "Ericsson Infrared V110" script, with Enable error correction & Wait for dial tone both UNCHECKED.

And it's not really dialing in, it's more like a data authenticating that takes no longer than 5 seconds.

Good luck and post back.
