well seems a bit tacky !

was just sanding it down with wet dry at 1500 grit, so nothing really and the paint started to come off !

i have just done this recently, bought an aftermarket copy in black, pretty tacky and nothing like the original. Managed to remove the cover with a bit of help from a guide and it does look ok with the new cover on. I am only using my p800 at home now, but if i was to take it out i reckon the paint would come off really easy. thinking about giving my old OEM housing a rub down and respray it myself. this is the guide i used http://www.uselessinfo.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dismantlep800.htm

also mate it sounds like you only have a t6 screwdriver if its the one that comes with it. You will need both a t6 and t8 to undo everything. The screws on the back of the p8 require a t8.
