I have heard from several people that text messages you send, get stored on the providers servers for long periods of time (like 10 years).
This seems excessive to me... I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how providers usually handle text messages.
The 2 specific providers I am interested in are T-Mobile and Verizon

I don't think it's true at all to be honest but I have no reasoning other than my own. There's just no point to it.
Why would they waste time & money on it?

Will be watched by security cams for our "own" secure they say... The same story in this case here imho. I do image how they read our messages and have their fun. I dont take care of it if it is. I share private and confidental infos only at personal meetings.

I have no idea what is done with SMS to be honest but it would not surprise me terribly if they were stored for lengthy periods of time.
Recently legislation was passed here that forces all internet providers to keep track of their subscribed members every move on the net and this has to be saved and be accessibel to the government for a minimum of 3 years if I'm not mistaken. So much for privacy
I would not at all be surprised to hear that something similar might exist for SMS, although 10 years seems excessively long.

10 years...I doubt that, although 10 months sounds more likely. I know that they do store them for a while though as someone was arrested for sending abusive messages in NZ and they got most of their information about them off the providers databases

I don't think that anyone would read the texts that we send, as there are simply millions os text messages sent every day.
I have heard that our messages are scanned for words such as ' attack.. or bomb ' etc, for security reasons due to recent terrorist attacks

nobody reads them unless the policy acts on a charge by somebody. Autoscanning for certain words would not surprise me at all to be honest.
