Ok, I got very excited when i read this

http://www.1st-in-cell-phones[....]oftware-for-mobile-phones.html

basically saying

Quote:PacketVideo’s demonstration of High Efficiency AAC utilizes the Sony Ericsson P900, and also includes a demonstration of SRS WOW audio enhancement technology. PacketVideo supports all popular audio formats to give the OEM the widest possible choice and best user experience.

I don't know if you guys have had any experience of AAC HE but it is a very exciting codec.. AAC HE is to AAC what mp3pro is to mp3... ie. the normal codec with SBR on top to replace lost high frequency information..

I know we have ogg support and am grateful to that to fall back on but basically ogg just cannot compete at low low rates... ogg isn't that offensive but it does alter the sound a lot at super low rates, its only when you do an AB test on the original and the ogg that you really start to notice it easily... AAC HE of course also alters it but its much more natural sounding.. in fact the other day i made a 16k/s AAC HE file and it sounded pretty reasonable.. with the p900's limit of 128meg cards ogg is already good at offering a reasonable amount of files at lowish rates.. a good number of albums.. but with AAC HE we could go lower... down to 32k/s or there abouts and pretty much double the number of albums we could have on a card, with a sound that is sometimes better than ogg at 50k/s and to my ears is definately ok sounding for some convenient playback on the phone..

Its just that a p900 was used in these above demonstrations that means its obviously implemented.. will packetvideo ever release this technology.. I tried finding out on their website yet they dont really have any contact details for end users...

Additonal info:

AAC HE recently won the 32k/s listening test (along with its other SBR buddie mp3pro).. this was done with blind listening tests so its basically a true result.. the only possible issue could be that of population size of the test

Nero6's Nero Media player has the ability to encode AAC HE.. in fact latest version of it also include some other technology (parametric stereo) to further help it in lower bitrates.. I dont know if demos are available but most people get nero6 with their burners, so you may already have it installed
