To start with its a SanDisk 128mb duo. I bought it 1.5 months ago sealed in its original pack and after filling it with more than 110mbs of data with my MS reader my P800 cant seem to read it. At first when i enter it in the phone it freezes for a while and then i use the filemanager in sman but it doesnt read it! I tried formating it several times in FAT and FAT32 but the P800 doesnt seem to read it. I even tried it on my fathers P800.

The strange thing is that the memory stick works just fine when using the reader. I believe that the problem is somewhere in the formating of the ms.

If there is anyone who knows how i can make it work again plz tell me...

Thnx

Only Sony ms duos are officially licensed to work in Sony equipment. Other manufacturers mfg ms duos, but are not licensed. So there is no guarantee that they will always work. If it is still under warrantee I would trade it in for another one. Could be a bad one. Or if you know anybody with a P800/900 who could try it in theirs.

Sandisk was actually making the Duo's for Sony so the cards were one in the same. However Sony later licenced manufacturing of the Duo's to 3rd party makers including Sandisk. Something has happened over the last couple months in the design/quality of Sandisk and have caused Sony to drop them. Sony now has a contract with Lexar for the manufacturing of their cards. One thing is for sure though, if it says Sony on it, then it is made to Sony's specs. Dunno about the third party ones, but I have heard good things about the Lexar ones. Perhaps a warranty replacement is in order?

I have one question though. Did you format the card from the phone? Or through the reader?

There is one thing you can try, Format using phone. Leave Duo in there, turn off and startup the p800. My friend discovered that, after he had problems with a sony duo. After startup, the card had the right folders and the file header info on the card.

Good Luck!

Where are you formatting the Duo? In phone or in reader. I suggest format it first on the phone and then copy files without breaking the existing file structure.

i'm sorry to be gloomy, but it looks to me that the upper memory blocks are faulty in that MS DUO. i experienced problems of this kind with RAM memory... ie, out of 128MB only 64 were available and so on. formatting wont do much so i strongly advise a replacement.

discussions on the quality of Sandisk, Lexar, or any other are highly inappropiate! Sandisk is a pioneer in this area, i strongly doubt any manufacturing faults to be a habit. that's the same about Lexar. the rest of third party are mainly just integrators. Lexar, Sandisk and Samsung are producing the chips and integrators do the rest. chip manufacturing is a small world.

conclusion, weather it's a Sandisnk or a lexar, or a Sony OEM, it's same quality.
s*** happens tho. get a warranty replacement!
cheers

If the memory blocks are faulty, he should perhaps see that from the card reader as well. Maybe not showing full size or something similar. What hint is this assumption based on?

When i try formatting from the phoneit says "formatting failed. You have to reformat the disk before it can be used".

I used the reader to format it previously.

EDIT: I restarted the phone with the ms in and then formatted it in the phone. IT WORKED! Thnx for the help guys. The final conclusion is not to format your ms duo from the reader.

He he, glad to see that that little trick worked for you too. It was weird but it works anyway. Guess we can all try that one, here I was thinking that it only worked by fluke with my freinds p8'
