i have a friend who say that you can text a word i.e pub and it comes back with a list of your local pubs can anyone enlighten me on this please or is it fiction

Its wouldnt be impossible if an operator would support this service. Donnow if it excists, its not a big deal to make.

U should ask the operator if its true or not. But it could be an independent service aswell.

@dugeon master - Here in Manila that feature is now common

Basically most Celfone Networks have that feature, even the traffic situation with 'real-time' images mate

So, I guess the answer here will be definitely - will depend on the Celfone Network you are using mate !
