how on earth does it get in there?
how the hell do i get rid of it?

I've asked the same questions many times and still no definite answers. I believe it may get into the screen either via the joystick or from the top side gap in battery cover which can drop and allow dust in from the openings in the front facia.

Keeping the phone unprotected in a pocket generates static electricity which will draw dust as if it were a magnet - and could further more introduce strange behavior of the sensitive electronics.
Keep the phone in some approriate case with antistatic innings.
Ive allways kept all my phones this way and has never experienced dust under the screen of any of them. My one year old T610 still looks brand new. Not one scratch - not a single dustcorn.

Both my T610 and my K700 - not a scratch on any of them.
Naturally I take it out whenever I need to operate the phone or just to play with it.
I might even add that my 10 year old kid had an alcatel 735 for more than 6 months before we sold it - carrying it in the same type of beltcase - and he also didnt get a single scratch on his phone - and hes a lively kid who likes to play alot - now thats a good boy

If you look under a halogenlamp nearly every phone will have scratches!

Ahuh.. I'm not buying it... Why?
Ericsson T68, 2 years of use in pocket - No Internal Dust.
SE T610, 1 year of use in pocket - No Internal Dust.
SE K700i, 1 month of use in pocket - Heaps of Internal Dust.
So yes, the K700 is more suseptable to dust.
Blame the phone, not the pocket!
