Hi seeing as even the many geniuses here were unfortunately unable to help with my sms txt problem an easier task how do I use mp3 files as incoming sound alerts?-or do I have to convert to wav and if so how is it done for a dummy like me please thanks

I suspected it would be a P800 but didn't want to play the guessing game

Unfortunately the P8 only plays MP3s & cannot use them as ringtones so u do indeed need to convert them to WAV.
The simplest app I know is dbpoweramp, it's also free & pretty self explanatory.

Try setting higher or lower bitrates when converting to give higher or lower sound quality & file size

That doesn't necessarily mean he had a P-Series, people don't always post in the right place!
Also the answer is different for P800 & P900

Milk, thank you very much, i just converted using the damp.Much obliged.I didnt do any of the bitrate stuff you suggested but it came up fine although the file is large. I will experiment with it when my status progresses from dummy to idiot.But thanks again.
