I'm a newbie to this whole thing of communicating between PCs and mobile phones and I'm currently trying to find a way of transferring SMS messages to the PC for archiving. Being able to back up everything on the phone (and being able to read that information on the PC would be nice as well.

I've got Sony Ericsson T-310 and Z-600 phones, and the PC is equipped with an infra-red USB adapter which has proved to work fine with the Sony Ericsson software and a theme editor.

Someone recommended I try out "FMA" which I have, but with no success.
It looks like it might do what I want it to, but I don't understand how to get started. I can't find any documentation apart from a very limited "getting started" sort of thing at a website which someone directed me to. Nothing I've tried has resulted in any communications with the phone (T-310).
How do I use it, and does it actually do what I'm asking for here?

If not, what kind of software (Windows) out there can do what I'm requesting?

I have never used FMA over IrDA before, but I use it on a daily basis through Bluetooth.

My guess is that you just need to go into Tools / Options and select Connect to phone via Native IrDA. Try pressing the Lookup Device button to see if you can see your phone.

It goes without saying that you need to enable IrDA on your phone and ensure the intra red ports on your PC and Phone are correctly aligned before you begin.

With IR, there isn't really anything special you have to do to use FMA. Perhaps you should make sure that IR is working first. You can do that by sending stuff (picture, contacts, etc..) to and from directly without using any software.

Some notes. in my fMA installation (v0.1.1.15 RC3) you find the options under the view menu. Under the General tab, you'll find your connection options.

If Native IrDA doesn't work, you may have to use a COM port. In that case, find out the COM port that your IrDA adapter uses.
