I have a Toshiba P10-304 Laptop with a Pentium 4 2.60ghz processor, 512mb DDR ram and 32mb GeForce FX 5100 chipset, currently running DOOM 3 in the lowest quality mode with very little slowdown however, if i run the game in high quality mode the graphics are very much improved but the frame rate suffers is this because of the graphics card or do i need more ram, is it possible to change the onboard graphics card on a Laptop? and how easy/hard is it. i know it voids the warranty, but does changing it mess up the machine. thanx in advance for any help or advice.

Your slowdown in high quality settings is due to gpu not ram, since you have 512mb (this is good enough for a laptop) ram memory upgrade cannot help you a great deal to improve your fps.
Let me ask you what is the speed of your ram? Ddr266or 333 or something better?

no you can't change the graphics chip(!) on a laptop. It is integrated on the mainboard.

Most Dell and IBM Laptops also seem to give users the option to upgrade their graphics cards, so maybe companies Toshiba and Sony should take note of this for the future, as i cant afford to give manufacturers more of my money for a brand new Laptop just because i want the lastest graphics card. initially i never really wanted a Laptop to play games on but when i bought a copy of DOOM 3 my view has sinced changed, oh well atleast i can play D3 on my Lappy, better off than most some might say.
