AFAIK, yes both need it installed.
That's why I have refrained from installing (despite it being free at the moment).
If it was compatible with the likes of MSN,AOL or other messengers then it would be cool.

i cant get it to work.
both my friend and i have it installed. the server dialog is set up. i call him, he gets the call and i get a "waiting for friend" msg..and nothing happens.
anyone having the same problem?
