I've tried the S700 and I have the K700 and they seem VERY similar browsing through the different menus. I also found this while browsing through the "textmarks" in the service menu of the K700:
"Error on Memorystick"
"Memorystick locked"
"Insert Memorystick"
"Memorystick is damaged"
"Memorystick full"
"Move to memorystick"
"Memorystick writeprotected"
"Whitebalance"
"Indoor camera mode"
Outdoor camera mode"
This sure implies, atleast to me, that the S700 is "simply" a K700 with 1,3mp camera and memorystick support.

it will be most unlikely they share the same firmware although the interface may be similar. This is the same when comparing the K700 and the Z1010 but you couldn't say the Z1010 is a K700 with 3g
It was also the same with the T610 and T630. Though the interface was fairly similar and the firmware versions numbered the same they are different firmwares

probably for the same reason that the T610 has texts about messenger and AOL. The firmwares are likely sourced from a common baseline firmware and then customised for each specific device. This is quite common these days in both the hardware world and the IT world where I work
