Has anyone esle noticed that when you bring up the virtual keyboard, if you press the caps lock button, all the numbers in the top row turn into different characters.
i.e. from 1234567890, they go to !"£$%^&*()

That's not how CapsLocks is supposed to work, it should just put the letters in upper case and leave the numbers alone. Right?

It reminds me of the old days when I used a manual typewriter with a ShiftLock on it. You had to take it off whenever you wanted to type a number.
I'd forgotten just how frustrating it was until I tried typing some upper case text on my phone.

Yeah i've noticed it but i never really thought of it as being a problem, its only one button to push to revert it.

On a PC, you can keep the SHIFT pressed when you want to write & twice. However, if you will try to do the same with the virtual keyboard you may start to appreciate the way CAPS LOCK works
CAPS LOCK = Locked version of SHIFT until you release it
I dont see any problem with that

I think, apandey, your missing the point. Although i tend to agree with you, he's saying that when caps lock is pressed, the numbers should stay as numbers, and not go to their symbols, if you know what i mean.

p.s. people do know what the caps lock and shift buttons are for...

Yeah it's not a massive problem, I'm not going to stop using my phone becasuse of it .

But it's just strange Sony didn't use the logical option when implementing capslock.

And it's the same with the shift button. Really it should stay on until you click it off. But as most of the time you only use Shift to capitalise the first letter of a word, it does make more sense to have it only work on one letter.

How often do you type to amphersands together compared to typing someones name or a new sentence?

What I was trying to point out is that the virtual keyboard Capslock is actually a Shiftlock. Wasn't implying it was a bug or problem.

sorry if i wasnt clear enough
I was not stating that what a CAPS LOCK mean, but stressing the way it works on P900
Was kind of trying to justify that typing $$$ would become
SHIFT, 4, SHIFT, 4, SHIFT, 4
as against
CAPS, 4, 4, 4
now
But agree this would be more as per user needs.
For example, writing numbers with capitals has same limitation on current setup.

What should be a more user friendly way of adding best of both world's? Sticky keys?

I think @londonstone suggested the correct thing. If shift is locked till we tap it again to release it and CAPS is implemented as on PC, It can solve both the problems
