I have a locked K700i. Is there any way to get rid of those ugly and irritating operator animations (or operator logos) ? "Can't delete protected file XXXXXXXX"
There must be some way to "unmark" these pictures without unlocking the phone?!
Thanks for any tip

welcome to Esato
unlocking the phone won't let you get rid of them either. they are part of the branded firmware and no, currently you cannot unbrand a K700

Thanks for your answer.
Is it possible to upgrade firmware to a firmware that hasn't got those pictures? Or is the "branded firmware" something else then the ordinary firmware?
Thanks again

unfortunately the answer hasn't changed since the two similar questions yesterday and the ones each day before that
so far no one has reported being able to unbrand a branded K700, but keep watching because someone will do it eventually

well i have bought my k700 from o2 and the branding is pretty minimal. theres only 3 gif files that you cant remove. and position 1 in the menu (the internet icon) hasnt changed, the only difference is thatits called O2 Home

Hi Guys
I got my K700i last week on Orange and I have managed to change the operator startup/shutdown logo's.
Connect the phone to your pc, open up the file with your phones pictures, copy the startup and shutdown pictures and save them somewhere on your pc.
Edit these pictures with whatever program you want (i just used paint to test this), then re-save them using the same names.
Finally send them back to your k700, you'll be asked to overwrite the ones in the phone, say yes and the origional startup/shutdown pictures will then be called startup_1, shutdown_1.
You still can't delete them, but you now have new startup/shutdown pictures that are better than the stupid operator pictures.
this is now what I have for startup and shutdown, now I know how to do it I'll soon change this to something better.
Hope this works for you all.
Cheers DalSwede

The branding on the K700i and other phones may be more than just annoying operator logos and colour schemes.
For example, Vodafone have specific firmware that is tuned to the Vodafone network of the respective country (U.K., Australia etc.) so that GPRS and the Vodafone Live! service work properly and fuss-free for customers. Connection settings for WAP/MMS/SMS etc. are hard-coded, Java libraries are optimised for Vodfone Live!, the hardware is optimised to work with Ericsson base stations etc.
They are not going to make it easy for you to erase these settings, if you want a generic phone that is not tested and optimised then you should buy one direct from Sony Ericsson or from a source not connected to the network operators.
