hi

i recently bought a pioneer A07 dvd writer. My pc is Tiny and already had a toshiba cd rw/dvd rom drive installed (toshiba r1312). My mate installed the pioneer A07 for me.

When i get it home my pc doesnt recognise either drive, i go to new hardware and it finds the toshiba drive but not the pioneer.

I downloaded the toshiba drivers from there website and install it seems to go fine up untill i get this error message on the black screen on installation -

mscdex.exe could not be located - press any key to terminate

both drives have power and they can open and close - so they must be connected right

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED - i am seeing my mate later today but if someone can help me with this before that would be brilliant all i want to do is burn dvds

thanks

Hey, what happened to the Mac you were going to buy?

Through my limited PC knowledge it sounds as if your mate hasn't set the drives up properly as master or slave devices (depending on whats already in your PC).

The power and eject will still work even if the ribbon connector to the computer isn't so they're not necessarily connected properly.

I think that usually the hard disk is a master drive, then the CD-ROM and additional drives are set as slave. Check that, or ask more knowledgeable people than me!!

@thecopperfield are both drives listed on boot up?

I'd have the HDD as Primary IDE Master device and the CD drives as Secondary IDE Master and Slave. The reason being slower devices on the same IDE bus as the HDD can make the HDD run slow.

If they are not listed on boot up (may be too fast to spot) then no driver is going to get it working. As suggested earlier it looks like your 'friend' has them on the same ID

Are you OK going into your motherboard bios (usually Del or F2 when prompted on boot up)?

If so, are all your drives listed in the Standard COMS features?

hi here is what it said

IDE Primary Master - ST340012A
IDE Primary Slave - None
IDE Secondary Master - None
IDE Secondary Slave - TOSJIBC DVD-R_M SV/R1

do you think he has connected them up wrong - maybe i should have the toshiba drive as IDE Secondary Master and put the Pioneer as Ide Secondary Slave maybe it will work then

Apologies for the delay
I'd Secondary Master the Pioneer DVD, this requires you to take the side off your PC and move a jumper (white plastic covered metal in the pic from SL to MA) at the rear of DVD drive next to the IDE ribbon. Apologies for the bad pic but enought to give you an idea.
PS Pin description is usually stamped into the metal as
