Anyone know if the P910 can make use of the Alternate Line Service (ALS). What providers in the USA support this feature?

Here's the only other relevant topic I found on it.

The P900 does (I use it!) so I don't see why not.

The P800 does not.

Are you using a dual sim adapter or a cloned sim with 2 numbers on it? What service provider are you using?

I'm using Orange in the UK - I looked at that thread last night, the person asking has clearly misunderstood what ALS is.

ALS allows you to have 2 lines on one SIM card, and to receive calls on both lines. I have different tarrifs on Line 1 and Line 2. L1 has a peak tarrif, L2 has an off peak tarrif, so I can switch between the two to make the best use of free minutes.

You can also set up separate diverts for each line, and each line has a separate answering service.

ALS does NOT involve using 2 sims, and it must be supported by the service provider.

What I want to do is have my work number & my personal number on the same phone. Not sure if I can do it. My personal sim is T-Mobile & my work sim is from another provider. I was thinking of using a dual sim adapter or cloning a new sim with both numbers, but I'm not sure if it would work for 2 different providers or not.

I guess the way dual SIM works is that only one SIM is active at a time. Its just like saving the trouble of you swapping the SIM in and out but probably its also like having one of your phone switched on and the other switched off. Which one you want on at a time is your choice.

I have never used dual SIM myself. Hence someone who knows about this can second or contradict my theory

T-Mobile do allow ALS here, but if your work phone is with another provider that doesn't help matters.

I've not looked in to dual SIM adapters for a while, but last time I looked you couldn't have both SIMs operational at the same time.

I can't offer you a solution I'm afraid!

Thanks for the info on UK T-Mobile. Wonder if a cloned sim with 2 numbers would work with ALS? I don't know if a dual number sim would have to be powered off & on to switch between them or not?

No, ALS is provider specific, and only uses 1 SIM.

I understand that the SIM cloned double SIMs are just like having 2 SIMs, and that you'd still have to turn off/on to get to the other one.

It's a pain really, and it wouldn't be too difficult to manufacture a dual SIM phone, there's a market for it, but none of the service providers would sell it!
