Can anyone tell me if the text engine on the K700i is any better than previous models e.g. T610/T630/Z600.

I believe so. It can keep up with me trying to go as fast as possible while the T6x0 would lag way behind.
The best way for you to be sure would be go in a shop & try one for yourself
