im waiting to get the k700i for my birthday soon, when i was choosing what phone i wanted i also came across the nokia 7610. the sony ericsson is better (obviously) but the nokia does have a 1 megapixel camera.

but one thing i dont get...
the amount of pixels in the display on the k700i = 38720 (176 x 220)
the amount of pixels in the display on the 7610 = 36608 (176 x 208)

the nokia has less overall pixels on its display, so does this mean that the "1 megapixel" images wont look as good a the normal VGA images on the k700 when veiwed on the fone itself??

i dont know if i got any of that right, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

thanks

well the displays are as you figured out almost the same, the pics from 7610 will look better especially while using digital zoom but i don't think you can really notice the difference while viewing them on a screen like that, the point of a 1mp camera is that you aren't embaressed if you send a pic like that via email on a pc....

s1 is right, they're not there for serious snapping, they're just for fun. Don't moan about the clarity of a webcam stuck on a mobile.

It's a bit silly though. Unless the phone is an inch or more in width, the camera will suck.

It was never intended as a serious device. It's still just a gimmick bacically.

the comments about a camera in a phone being a gimmick used to be true but that was when memory in phones was limited and camera resolutions were kept to a minimum for mms use etc.

now with external memory or large internal memory in phones why should phones not have serious cameras built into them?

I've seen 'proper' 3, 4 and 5 megapixel digital cameras with small 1 inch screens but even on digital cameras the screen is really just used as a viewfinder and to have a quick look at the pics taken. No one really walks around with loads of pics permanantly stored in there camera and it would be the same with high res cameras in phones. At the first opportunity the pictures will be offloaded, printed, emailed or whatever

I'm all for carrying less around with me and since I virtually always have my phone with me I welcome a 3+MP camera in there too

Yeah I agree with masseur, it is great to always have a camera with you when it is your phone, so it is just even better to have a high quality one!

Well, what is a x MP camera good for if you want to share that pic quickly? Either you send if from your phone (do you got the bandwidth) or you load it to your computer and e-mail it. Then you could also use a regular camera.
However, I understand your point of using only one device, but then you would need a good camera in your phone. I think 1 or 2 MP would already be enough for general use.
