I recently reformatted my internal memory of my P800 but I've found that I cant change my ring tone anymore after I restored from my backup. When I try to use the "find melody" function, I keep on getting "program contacts...reason code KERN-EXEC....reason number 3" error msg. When I try to change from the phone preferance, the phone restarts all over again.
This has led me to believe that either my contact file or my ring tone file stored in the backup might have been corrupted. So my question is how do I restore selectively (meaning restore all other files except for my contact and ring tone folders)? Is there a way where I can choose what file I want to restore from my backup. Thanks

I think its all or nothing.
A few times I wished you could restore on a per file basis. You can't get at your backup either, its in some archive format ( not sure what sort I've never bothered to look).

Dam!
Any IT expert who knows how to decipher the file in the backup and extract only the non corrupted ones?

It's just a zip file.

The original filenames aren't used, but it contains a nice plaintext file with all the paths/filenames so you can find individual files easily.

Bowman, I know that worked on P800 earlier but since I changed to P900 and new PC Suite I only get .dat when open in zip. How to do if wanna see all the files in it?

same problem here Bowman, after I unzipped using WinRAR, I get all these numbered files from 21 to 2361 and all in .dat format. How do I find out which file is which so that I can select which files I want (uncorrupted ones) and ignore the ones that I dont want (the corrupted ones)? Thanks

All,
Amongst the .dat files, you should have a file called filestore.dat.txt - this is a plan text file listing each file that needs to be restored and it's corresponding filename.
Just remove the lines you don't need. BE CAREFUL! Make sure you take a back up of the filestore.dat.txt
Hope this helps

Ok now that I've got a list of all the files in my backup, how do I delete the corrupted ones? From the text files or from the numbered files itself and once I've deleted them, how do I restore the 'new uncorrupted' backup files into my phone? Any ideas? thanks
