I live in a poor reception area. I want to connect an external antenna to my K700i to improve reception. The K700i has an external antenna socket next to the camera. I asked SE which connector cable makes the connection and they don't know. They suggested I buy a car cradle and the HCE-12 connector cable to use in the office. They warned that the HCE-12 connector will not work with phone directly
Bit of mystery what the socket on the phone is for. Anyone got any ideas on the socket or practical tips on boosting my signal?

where is the sockt? under the grey rubber bit? On the t610 somebody said that if you roll up some kitchen foil and stick it in the socket it will improve the reception. though it will look poor.

Yes, the socket is under the grey rubber bung, prise it out with a paperclip.
My reception is very poor and I think I need a good external aerial, maybe I could use a LOT of tinfoil.
Google search shows the USA has a good retail range of bi-directional GSM amplifiers but can't find similar in the UK. Probably because our population density is greater and GSM coverage more reliable for most people so no demand for the product.
I'm still open to suggestions.

I've tried various phones and service providers and have the optimal set-up but still have to leave the house to get a signal the phone can hold onto. I'm hoping that an external yagi aerial will give me sufficient gain to use the phone indoors. But I need to connect my K700i to the aerial which is the problem.

even if you do get / make something it will need an external power supply, the little phone wont be able to power a big aerial. i would be interested in making a home docking station, could be done using a car kit i would have thought.

Thanks for your feedback, I'm clueless about how the aerials actually work and didn't realise they need power.
The car kit idea sounds OK but it's probably expensive and can only use it with K700i. Would I need a 12V power supply too?

yeah you would need a 12v power supply, can buy one from a electronic store, should be easy, instead of puttin it in a car, would just be on ur desk, could even make a nice box to set it in and hide wires, this way u will also have a loud speaker and mic,

Sounds like something I could make a real mess of. I want a simple solution in case it doesn't work.
We've got a powerful TV aerial with an amplifier, wonder if I could connect the phone to this? At least I could watch the Olympics on the K700 even if I can't call anyone.
I'll just buy a new house, it'll be quicker and cheaper.
