Hi everyone,
I want to connect my PDA (iPAQ) to the net using the T68 as a modem (hence using my airtime minutes as opposed to data services). As it is right now, mmode (gprs) service is WAY too expensive! I've heard conflicting reports about this, and I'm hoping someone here can clear it up for me. Some say it is possible and others say NO because of the way the network is set up. I've even talked to AT&T 3G tech support who claim this is totally NOT possible. If it is possible, why are they saying "no" ???

This is THE deciding factor on whether or not I migrate to AT&T's 3G network and buy the T68. *Fingers crossed* Thanks so much!

To clarify, I'm in the USA (Michigan). AT&T 3G network. Don't know if that's important to add or not.

What does it mean 3G network? The t68 isn't a 3G phone. If you call with a GSM data call (9,6kbit/s, 14,4kbit/s, the speed depend on the network coding scheme capabilities) then you must to able to call a modem succesfully. If your network support HSCSD (and if you have the category) then you able to call a modem with (14,4k/28,8k uplink/downlink) speed (the speed depend on the network...etc)
I cannot beleive that the normal gsm data call isn't working on your network.

I don't know exactly what that means, but perhaps AT&T doesn't support it?! I have heard that they do not support digital data transmissions. Does that make any sense? Sorry, I'm new to all of this.

High Speed Circuit Switched Data = mainly known as High-speed data.

The T68 have both high-speed ability and GPRS ability.
The T68 is a gsm/gprs phone.

High speed data accounts are usually used by people who transfer data (packages).
Others,..(most people),..use gprs network,..here you dont pay for being online/the time,..you only pay for downloads/uploads.

GPRS is in some way 2.5G,...3G is the same as UMTS,..the next generation gsm-network.

3G/UMTS network is faster than any of the others. The first 3G phones will be "dual-mode", meaning they will work on both GSM and UMTS network. They have to do this,..as UMTS will not be implemented from day one to day two

The T68m/i will work with an Ipaq on gsm/gprs network.

I dont know how many operators in the US, use gsm/gprs network. I know that VoiceStream uses it.
And I know a lot of them uses CDPD, CDMA an CDMA-One networks.

I just bought a very good book on the Ipaq,..some very nice hints, ideas and so on.

Well its possible in the UK!, have you download the SE communication package, this enables you to use you phone as a modem when connected by IR, i haven't tried it with a PDA but works fine with my PC
