I'm just wondering if this is a world-wide habit or it depends on people's attitude towards fear. As for me, i don't lock my house' door. This message was posted from a T68i

i always lock my door when I leave the place and at night. During day time when I'm in it's always open.

It's not fear though, it's a habit. I've done this as long as I can remember... and my parents act the exact same way for as long as I can remember.

I have no deadbolts btw.

Always lock the door, no matter how briefly I'm going out if there's no one in the house. As we recently got a new front door that has a conventional handle, and not a Yale 'close the door and it's locked' lock, it even gets locked if someone leaves the house, and there's still someone in but in bed.

I also lock the car up whenever I leave it, even just for 60 seconds when going to the cashpoint, or paying for petrol. The UK has the worst car crime in Europe!

I do remember going on holiday to various Greek isles (One of my favourite parts of the world!), and seeing cars and scooters parked at the side of the road, with the keys STILL in the ignition! This is unheard of in the UK - the vehicle would probably be gone in, well, 60 seconds (or less), or at least the fear that this will happen.

Where are you from, @pianosso?

No need locking the doors in my (literally) neck of the woods really, but I do lock up. Even in my remote location with its kind neighbours there is the occasional druggie breakin. And some sadder individuals trying to find a party... But I never lock the door when inside. Nothing to be afraid of here except the occasional elk and the general evilness of this forest :-) This message was posted from a T630

I live behind 3 locked doors - a heavy security door (access to me and 9 other flats), lobby door (5 flats) and then my flat door. This message was posted from a T68i

I dont lock the door, and i usually forget my key. Other members of the house lock the door, leaving me the bathroom window as my only point of entry! I leave it open just in case. I'm bad for forgetting my keys!

You can see how safe we feel here in Greece then!

But personally I keep the doors unlock during the day but lock them in the night.

Regarding my car I always lock it even if I need to walk five meters away from the car to buy something from a store. You never know...

I usually tend not to lock except when my girlfriend is home alone I make her keep the doors locked and when I leave in the morning and she's still asleep I always lock. Otherwise sometimes it's open sometimes it's locked.
