Okay, I wonder if someone can help with this.

I'm getting notices of low storage space on my P900.
The phone has turned off its ability to receive SMS as a result.
Ironically enough, this is even prohibiting me from deleting emails to make space.
When I attempt to delete emails, a "Disk full" message is returned.

This is probably the result of one of two things.
1. My computer's new email client doesn't by default delete emails from my mailserver, which has twice left my P900 to download headers for 800+ emails, taking up a lot of space.
2. I renamed a file on my P900's memory, "jo", the other day to "jo.txt". This has somehow resulted in my "External Media" being renamed "jo.txt". Very bizarre. Could it be that this is affecting the phone's storage calcuation, if it is not recognising the external storage card properly?

Whatever, I would like some advice on how to actually make some space on my phone - in particular, getting to delete those 800+ emails. I have already run the storage manager app a few times; there's not much left to delete.

Secondly, how can I ensure that my external media is named properly?

Thanks

Use Sman to compress your contacts, delete all the Themes, if that doesnt work try a master reset.

a. How do I delete the themes? What should I be looking for?

b. How would I perform a Master Reset? And, more importantly, what can I back up and how? For example, is it the case that I can only back up my contacts, calendars and external disc contents? Regardless, how would I restore them, ie. from my Mac? I've no idea how to get anything from my new Mac to the P900.

Argh!

Delete themes using Control Panel > Themes. Highlight each theme and then select delete.

I would then recommend using Sman to use the basic p800 theme, which saves some memory for better performance - "Sman > fn > utilities > p900 to p800"

Not sure how you'd be backing up (or anything else) from mac!

Master reset either by "Control Panel > Other Tab > Master Reset" or
Use the sevice menu to format your hard drive -
"Stick in the following, with > being jog dial up and > * Then choose service functions.
This will entirely default (ie wipe) your phone, so only do it if you must.

What Mac OS and setup are you using?

There really is no real need for such extreme measures as a master reset! You simply need to see what is filling up your internal storge space, and try to move it to the external storage. I moved almost all my apps to the 128MB card. Even Opera is on the card. I usually have at least 9MB free on intrnal memory.

First you may want to get rid of all those emails. Why not simply mark them and select delete?

Mac OSX 10.3.5.
I only recently switched from Windows to Mac and, like hundreds of others out there, have had problems syncing the machine and the P900. So it's far from ideal that this storage issue has come along now, before I've managed to get the two working together properly.

How exactly do I find out what is filling the space then? Because I've deleted 99% of what was in the Media Files area and, even using file manager etc., I just don't see what there is to be taking up so much space.

I'm wondering whether it's possible that I'm getting a false reading. As I said, my external space is now, for some reason, called "jo.txt", rather than the usual "External ...". That's worrying, surely?

I was trying to, but the phone was returning "Disk full" even on trying to delete the emails, which is bitterly ironic.

I've now deleted them and have 0.6Mb free, but I'm having real problems using GPRS now. Whenever I try to check my mail or use the web, the phone establishes the connection, but never actually does anything with it. I notice that my service provider Orange seemed to have sent me an auto-setup message on 29/08/04 which, when opened, opens a dialog saying "New Internet account settings have been received. Name: Orange.net(GPRS), Type: GPRS. Add new Internet account? Yes/No". I have now added this, but neither the new nor the old profile seems to connect to GPRS properly.

I should add that, when the mail app tries to download mail, I get "Qmap fatal error! Terminating"
