My K700 has 3 preset emergency numbers you can dial even if the phone is locked. 911 is there but in the UK we have 999. Is it possible to set that number in anyway?

It should be there already. I just tried on my (Orange UK branded) K700i and I could dial 999 with keylock on.

when keylock is set you should be able to dial the digits that are contained in your alarm number. If 9 and 1 both work, 999 should work.

112 is the standard GSM emergency number and it will always connect you to the emergency services no matter what country you are in and what their national emergency dialling code is.

you cannot change the preset emeregency numbers in the phone

edit: unfortunately 999 doesn't work because the phone only recognises 911, 112 and 08. as you as you start the sequence with 9 and then type another digit which is not 1 (as in 911) then the phone gives you the message that the phone is locked and cancels the input you have entered

is 112 common for dialling emergencies from a cell phone?? Or is that only in the Uk?

and while we are on the locked keypad topic, i noticed a few days ago that if you press 9 or 1 when the keypad lock is on, you can't cancel it off the screen with the c or back keys. This the same on k700?

as I say, 112 is the standard set down by the group who designed GSM. The operator that you connect through then converts this to the national standard emergency number

I would expect that in UK people would probably mostly unlock their phone and dial 999 because most wouldn't know about 112.

the emergency number in Australia is 000 btw, just for something different!

aha......... I suspect 'the group that designed GSM' must've been largely european then... as it is indeed our (and other country's) national emergency number...

Ah, I see now. I guess Orange K700 phones have 999 preset and us 02 users don't have it? Oh well.
