I have just installed a dss-20 data cradle, but the software still says theres no phone connected. Can anyone help?
I know that the driver for the usb is correct, and the k700i software is also installed properly.

go into mobile phone monitor (phone monitor options) and ensure that the correct COM port is enabled

i had real problems the first time i used the dss, i had to let the software connect by a serial cable first, then after that the USB cable was able to find the phone. Not sure of a solution if you don't have a serial cable. Just try putting the phone into the cable then pressing F5 in the my phones folder to do a refresh to see if it will find the phone.
It still takes a while for it to find my phone, even though it has been set up with it before.

So if you only want to put some bloody mp3's on your phone you should check this out:
http://k700.hitziger.net
Download the 'K700 Dateimanager' from there. It works almost like Windows Explorer and you can change files between your pc and your phone very easily. Unfortunately the program freezes from time to time so you have to restart it. And sometimes it doesn't find your phone either, but it still worked better on my pc than the SE software.
Maybe I could help...

do some searching for a program called Sendfile. I will see if i can find you a link for it. But that is good for just sending files, but can't get files from the phone.
**EDIT**
Sendfile
Look further down that page for send file version 2, as that allows you to send multiply files
Dateimananger looks to have more features, but sendfile shouldn't crash on you, if the other program is causing you problems.
