havent tried that; but it should work:
buy a bluetooth usb dongle 100m(the ones which have sth like antenna at the right side).
then get the antenna like thing out and make the same thing ur friend did(make an antenna from a pringles box).
then contact ur old antennas wire with the new pRinglas Box antenna's wire. that must work theorically.
cos; bluetooth signals are the same as WiFi signals and sometimes even same frequency but the difference is that bluetooth has higher refresh rate. and cos of that bluetooth signals MUST be BOOSTABLE

this belongs in the technical thread! Now when you say it, it should work just the same with bluetooth as with Wifi. Its about the same frequency. Just do as your friend did and report your success here

EDIT: I wasn't fast enough

i don't think this is going to work...because the bluetooth dongle isn't what will limit your range, it is your phone that will. So unless you can increase the range on that too, it is pointless

i dont think so if i make the bluetooth =antenna better then it will be able to push more signal - so the phone can pic it up further away-
just like the wifi- they add a home made antena on it and it make the signal boost much much better - all my phone will need to do it pick it up we will see

http://www.oreillynet.com/~rob/pringles/ says:
"a 12db to 12db
can-to-can shot should be able to carry an 11Mbps link well over ten miles."
this is what makes me think that both ends need to have a larger antenna, even in BT. But hey, good luck with it, and mad props if you get it working!

I'm gonna get a blue tooth adapter soon so keep us posted, I'll get mine pulled to bits to have a go.
I don't think both ends need to amplified as I was a security conference and one of the lectures was about wireless security and some guy in NZ proved he could connect to a WAP miles away with what looked like a modified wok!
Also in rural areas in the UK (Borders area) there are plans to for certain ISPs to provide Wireless access over a 30+ mile radius.
