does anyone know how to send ringtones i.e polyphonic & monophonic via sms from p900 or t610.

You cannot send polyphonic tones by SMS, you must use MMS.
You can though send some simple monophonic tones by SMS.
On a P9 just press the little music note icon when composing a message & choose ''Message Sounds'' folder.
On a T6x0 press "More" then "Insert Item" then "Melody" (I think)
Obviously u must have the monophonic 'Twinkle-beep' on the phone & I think there's some sort of size limit

when i click on the small musical note the monophonic tune which i downloded from my service provider does not show up in the list. as other simple low graded nokia phones has this facility. the tone i had downloaded is of 12kb size.

A lot of ringtones (if not all that come from a website) are protected against forwarding, you can only keep it on your own phone.
