Hi,

The screen on my T68i broke completely (don't ask) so it's impossible to view or navigate the menu. I'm pretty sure the phone is still working though, so I would really like to recover my contacts. What I'm looking for, is someone with a T68i to "guide the blind" and help me get the phone to send all stored contacts via the infrared port. I.e. "down down right enter" or whatever it is - help much appreciated I feel so silly for not backing the phone up..

left, YES, 8, 6, 1 then your T68i will connect to the other IR device

Try this:

Click joystick twice. (gos to Phone Book)
Press 8 (advanced)
Press 6 (Send All)
Press 1 (Via infrared)
Phone will attempt to send all contacts via IR. But it only allows about 5 seconds before failing to connect, so keep clicking Yes to retry...

Unless you're got your contacts on your sim card...

Just replaced my T68i screen a month ago (had 5 'dead' pixels that were annoying me). Really easy to do, you just need a T6 screwdriver (about £2 from any hardware shop) and it just slots into place.

You can buy one for under £15 all-in from eBay, or less if you look around.

I managed to initiate the transfer with your guides, but it seems the phone is more messed up pretty bad; it seems to die before the transfer is complete. Sometimes it sends the contacts A-F, sometimes A-M but never the complete phonebook. I tried transferring with both infrared and bluetooth.

Any alternatives left? I don't suppose it's possible to 'save all' contacts on the SIM card somehow? Maybe I should just dump any friends with names N-Z

Also, thanks for the hint on buying a replacement screen, but the phone is way too screwed up to begin repairing.

Maybe you can synchronize it with a PC based application such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes using XtndConnect PC. That way, just follow the guide above to activate the IR port and let the Xtndconnect application do the rest.

Just a thought.

if you will copy the contacts to sim... make sure there is enough free places on the SIM... each number in the phone will be saved as one contact (meaning, if you have saved a contact with two names in the phone, this will be saved as two contacts on the sim)

as said before, synch it with your computer. Or use PhoneBackup from http://www.christersson.org to save it.

It worked. Was finally able to retrieve it by sending the entire phonebook as a file via infrared to a PC.
