> Older phones better?

After almost 2 years with a T600 I thought it would be nice to have a new phone and I was reading about the T630 and k500 etc. These phones look nice and seem like a lot of fun, you know wwap via gprs, bluetooth and fma and all.
But I also am afraid that I would have to give up a lot, like:
- customisation of shortcuts would become limited
- to see if I have a message, or missed a call or something, I would have to push a button to bring it to life. Now the little t600 sits there and one glance and you can see all that matters
- the option key is still the best SE has made; all that matters is only 2 clicks away (from standby).
- the blinking led that has disappeared since t600 hasn't come back and I found it a sacrifice on the t600 already
And a lot of other little details that do not really matter that much. And it also goes for the r600, t200, etc. that generation.
Why do we have to give up all that? It is not incompatible with a colour screen and gprs and bluetooth, no?
I think only the z600 has all these functions now because of the 2nd screen and the led - but it is so ugly and I don't like clamshells.
Am I the only one that has these considerations? Am I missing something? Being choosy?

The meaning of mob fone has changed, the market aswell. Many features have been removed, most of them without any logic. Brands are going to concentrate to multi media things, but forget that its still a fone. Unless they should keep the missing functions and next to them develope mobiles.

as i haven't tried the T600 myself i don't know how shortcuts worked, but you can assign 4 to the main directions of the joystick.

K500 shows received messages or missed calls on the screensaver.

I loved the LEDs of T68i and older... These ones' LED blinks only for low battery.. T610 on the joystick, K700 on the power button

-higher reliability
-better quality
Obviously on a simpler phone, as the older phones were, less things can go wrong. As complexer phones get as more possibilities for trouble there are.

I started with gh337 years ago, so for me means userfriendly design for comfortable everyday use, features and menu to support communication on different ways a good battery on all these usage depend.

I have just 'restored' a T68i as my latest little project, and i have to admit I do kinda prefer it's design in some ways to my K700! And I do too miss the LEDs, a good way to see at a glance if I have a signal, if the battery's running low, or if I've left Bluetooth on again!!
btw, I do believe that the P900/P910s have these LEDs still, at least my old P800 does, anyways!

Whilst most phones retain the form and function of a phone, at the moment, they are now including more and more features. Mobile phone have become 'communications devices' enabling the user to communicate with others in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, voice calls.
Nostalgia for older models will probably always be there, but I don't think it is fair to make comparisons between current mobile phones and older models, they are, simply put, different things. Some older mobile phones had a better battery life than most modern mobiles, but then again they didn't have colour screens, cameras, Bluetooth, etc to eat up their battery life. One wouldn't compare an abacus with a supercomputer, and yet they are both based on the same principal; mathematics.
