I am presuming that you can only use the online update service if you have a PC and won't be able to use it with an iMac?

Is this the case?

It doesn't work on Macs. I tried it and it starts downloading a Java applet which detects that its not running on Windows.

I'm waiting for my DSS-20 to arrive so that I can try it running Windows XP on Virtual PC.

JoolsG3,

Thanks for your reply.

I thought there would be a problem. I was just about to order a sync station as well, but there doesn't seem to be much point now.

Not happy, boo hoo.

Why would you even possibly trash your phone by using VPC?

Just go to a public library and do it there. it is not worth the risk. plus, VPC will undoubtably screw it up.

Even if it doesn't work it hopefully it shouldn't trash the phone because SE have built-in a recovery feature...

Ok, so I just tried the online update with my Mac (eMac 1.25Ghz, 1gb RAM, 10.3.5) running Windows XP SP2 on Virtual PC 6.1.

Everything worked fine up to a point. For me it got as far as turning the phone off and then telling me there are no updates for my device (I'm on O2 who as yet don't support the online update ).

Interesting to know as I'm a Mac user to.

VPC does allow flashing of CD drives in a USB case, so I suppose this is a similar thing.

VPC must allow direct access to the USB bus.
