Welcome to Esato! As far as I'm aware, MLM is legal in the UK (as long as the terms are clear). Pyramid selling is illegal. This message was posted from a T68i

With pyramid you have to buy "stock" to sell on. The danger is you may be left with unsold stock. With MLM you only buy what you require. This message was posted from a T68i

Hi there! Welcome to Esato!! MLM is totally different from illegal pyramids. MLM is a genuine business opportunity if you pursue it seriously. But deal with reputed companies in the field only. Some fly-by-night companies are pyramids disguised as MLM. This message was posted from a T230

What exactly's the difference? Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me dressed up in a fancy name! Or another get rich quick scheme.

Nope. As i mentioned earlier pyramid scheme's are different from genuine multilevel marketing opportunities. And MLM's ain't get rich quick schemes. It's a great way for creating residual income. This message was posted from a T230

With a pyramid you have to pay up front and hold stock. MLM requires no committment and can be a good way of making money. Many home party type things are MLM. If you have customers, everyone benefits.

Ah, I think I see now. So multilevel marketing would be things like tupperware parties, Avon, and things like Amway cleaning products?

Yes. You buy something off me for £5 and I buy it off my person for £4 (i.e. I make £1). He buys it off the company for 3.50. So he makes a bit off my sale, too. The advantage for the company is other people do their selling for them. This message was posted from a T68i
